M-Town Ladies Advance, 51-48 Over Mead

(Rosemead) The visiting Monrovia Lady Wildcats overcame 18-points by Evelyn Ramirez and 17-points from Melody Gauthier to eek out a tough 51-48 victory over Rosemead on Thursday night in the first round of the CIF playoffs.

Monrovia overcame a 37-33 deficit at the end of three quarters with a big fourth. September Offutt scored 10 of the Lady Cats 18 points in the final frame to lead the charge. Offutt continually frustrated Rosemead with power moves inside and short jump shots in the lane. Offutt finished with 19 on the night to lead all scorers. 

Rosemead trailed 27-23 at the half but opened the third with a 12-2 run to gain control. Gauthier hit two long range bombs in the quarter and had four three pointers in the night. She also nailed two threes in the first. The Lady Panthers outscored Monrovia 14-6 in the third to move ahead by four before M-Town came back in the fourth. 

Ashley Cook hit a trey in the first period and Sarah Johnson worked her way inside for three buckets as Monrovia took a 15-13 advantage after one. Jeanne Tran hit two from behind the arc in the second quarter to keep the Lady Panthers close heading into the half. 

After Ramirez and Gauthier the scoring dropped off for Rosemead. No other player was in double figures and Tran finished with 8. The Lady Cats had three players in double figures. Cook and Johnson joined Offutt with 11 and 10 respectively.

Rosemead ended the year with a record of 19-5 overall (10-0 in league.) Monrovia moves on to the second round.
