The TEN:12/9/2016

THE TEN (NEW)(“The TEN” is not a top ten but ten items worth being included in “The TEN”)

1.) Kenley Jansen and Justin Turner remain unsigned by the Los Angeles Dodgers.

2.) Former El Monte point guard Jimmy Maldonado turns 53.

3.) Former Maranatha Minutemen center Trevor Stanback, now at Stanford, has scored two points in 21-minutes of action over the course of four games for the Cardinal.

4.) Former La Serna quarterback, Frankie “Football” Palmer turns 21.

5.) Dexter Fowler signs 5-year/$82.5-million deal with St. Louis Cardinals.

6.) On This Date in 2011: West Covina 84 La Serna 21 in Southeast CIF Final.

7.) “Ty Cobb: A Terrible Beauty”—By Charles Leerhsen

8.) The Los Angeles Lakers, 24 games into the 2016-2017 season, are 10-14.

9.) With Richard Broussard’s resignation, Burbank begins searching for its fourth head football coach in the last ten years. In 2008 Ted Amorosi led the Bulldogs to their first playoff win in 80 years—20-14 over Santa Fe. In 2013, Hector Valencia led them to the semifinals. And this season Broussard led them to the CIF Finals.

10.) Sierra Canyon is 14-0 this year…28-1 the last two years…and 39-3 in the last three years…They have a state title under their belt (15-0 in 2011)…and— not counting the 2007 when they played eight-man football—SC has gone 100-17…all under Jon Ellinghouse.

Can the CIF go back to the days of no more year round football. They are slowly killing high school football.

Based on what I have heard Ziola will return to coaching elsewhere. Maybe a year sabatical is in order but if the right situation presented itself I see him taking it. Coaches have to take a chill pill as far as time spent on football and devise ways to be productive without so much investment in time. You can only watch so much film and go to so many coaching clinics. My gut tell me as well as observation that for many coaches it turns into a kind of addiction this spending countless hours in this occupation. They could be home but would rather be in the coaches room hanging out. Get organized, do your job then go home. The sun will rise the next day.

@Yes, it’s not so much what they’ve done but how they’ve done it. They produce players to their best potential. Their coaching shows by developing players. Other coaches have done more but do it the way of recruiting and other questionable tactics. For those guys, the players make the coach and not the other way around.

#10 and they’re still nothing but thugs from Ellinghouse on down. Glad to be part of the only bright spot in that 28-1 two year record.

@Del Rio, if he were to go to Cal then that would mean that the Del rio league would have what I consider to be the 2 best young coaches in SoCal. Personally, Id like to see Ziola go to a big name program. A Serra, Edison, etc.

Ziola to Cal would put the nail in La Serna’s coffin, but more interesting would be Ziola to either Pioneer or Whittier, and watching him breathe life into those comatose operations.

This game made a comedy of the finals, which reflected the atrocious stadium in which it was staged. I have a feeling that WC would have eased off the throttle a bit, had they not been insulted by the choice of venue. By comparison, La Habra always opts for Cerritos College’s fine facility (or better) when playing a title game. The Highlanders also wouldn’t pass on the chance to play at home in the state regionals, as Arroyo has done. Live and learn.

Unfortunate for Los Altos and Burbank programs, but I enjoy reading about coaches popping up at other schools. I hope Ledesma is next.
