Sierra Canyon scored 590 points on the season – an average of over 36 points per game. The Trailblazers racked up 50 points in a game on four different occasions and over 60 once.
They scored 82 touchdowns for the season while averaging close to 400 yards per game. And they did it all under the direction of OC Mark Serve. Of course Sierra Canyon had the athletes to make things go. Running back Bobby Cole (our Player of the Year) rushed for over 2300 yards. But consider this. Sierra Canyon’s starting quarterback Niko Harris was hurt three games into the season and didn’t return until the State Championship game. However the Blazers didn’t miss a beat. Johnny Hawkins stepped and led the team to an undefeated season throwing for 1856 yards and 21 touchdowns.
Serve’s system ran to perfection no matter who was out in the field. Another interesting statistic: Five different Sierra Canyon players had over 100 yards receiving led by Dylan Tait who had 1037 in an offense that spread the ball around.
In the Division 4 CIF Final against Corona del Mar the Blazers went for two in the second overtime and won the game on a Cole run 36-35. Although head coach Jon Ellinghouse may have made the final call, you can be assured Serve was instrumental in drawing it up.
Mark Serve is our Offensive Coordinator of the Year.
