(Glendora)- Chaminade used a 13-3 run to break it open in the second half and went on to beat Azusa Pacific 83-71 Monday night at Felix Event Center. 

The game was tied at 35 at the half but Chaminade moved out to a 55-50 advantage with just under 11 minutes left. Then consecutive threes by Dantley Walker sparked the 13-3 blitz and a five point lead was suddenly 15 at 68-53. The Cougars never could recover and fell by 12.

Azusa Pacific led by seven early in the contest before Chaminade rallied. Petar Kutlesic had 15 for APU in the first half but finished with just 17. Connor Peterson had 15 and Corey Langerveld led all scorers with 21. Langerveld was 7 of 13 from the field and 4 for 4 from the line. Peterson hit all seven of his free throws as the Cougars missed just one overall.

They also outrebounded Chaminade 46-37 but it wasn’t enough.

Walker hit three three pointers overall and finished with 11 for Chaminade. Kirin Shastri led the team with 18, Kuany Kuany scored 15, Austin Pope had 12 while Rohndell Goodwin put in 17 in a balanced attack. Chamnade shot 40.9 percent from the field compared to 37.5 for APU and 51 percent from three point land to 32 percent for the Cougs. APU was just 9 of 28 from downtown.

With the victory Azusa Pacific dropped to 10-13 overall and 5-8 in the PacWest while Chaminade improved to 14-8 and 10-5.

Next up for APU is a home game Thursday night against Hawaii Hilo.
