In the 27th minute a Tijuana header by Pablo Meza off of a corner kick just missed the net.

In the 28th minute Daniel Steres made a great stop preventing a Tijuana chance on the left side. The Galaxy had a chance in the 30th minute but Raul Mendiola’s pass to an open Ari Lassiter hit a Tijuana defender.

Each side had four total shots in the first half with LA having two on goal.

First year Galaxy head coach Curt Onalfo made wholesale changes in the second half as he wanted to see what his bench could do.

The Galaxy broke the ice in the 52nd minute when Jose Villareal parlayed a perfect pass by Emmanuel Boateng in the front of the net into a goal as he booted it by Tijuana goalkeeper Luis Michel.

Tijuana got it right back two minutes later when Matias Pizano scored on a free kick after Dave Romney was hit with a penalty. Pizano beat Clement Diop who replaced Rowe to start the second half.

Dio made a diving save off a rebound shot in the 56th minute to keep it deadlocked at one.

Diop made another sprawling save in the 81st minute to keep it even and it remained knotted at one the rest of the way.

Two minutes of extra time were added but neither team could break through as they settled for the tie.

The Galaxy was playing without Gyasi Zardes and Robbie Rogers (injuries) and Giovani dos Santos (international play).
