The Almont League 2000-2009

The decade belonged to Schurr

The last decade in the Almont was interesting in a number of ways. Perennial doormat San Gabriel was one of two teams to make a title run, and forever shed its reputation for bad football. Keppel just got worse, but there was a serious break down at both Montebello and Bell Gardens. Alhambra, largely by virtue of not having a coaching change, was very consistent.

The big mark was made by Elvin Dick’s 2006 Schurr Spartans who brought the league a CIF title.

Overall Record

Schurr: 73-45-1

Bell Gardens: 64-45-2

Alhambra: 63-44-1

San Gabriel: 56-52-1

Montebello: 46-60-0

Keppel 6-94-0

Notes: Schurr seems almost underrated for what it accomplished. If Bell Gardens didn’t have such a drop off, they would be remember better as well.

League Record

Schurr: 40-10-0

Bell Gardens: 33-17-0

Alhambra: 29-21-0

San Gabriel: 25-25-0

Montebello: 23-27-0

Keppel: 0-50-0

Notes: Is 0-50 possible? Of course it is, but very hard to fathom. And the Aztecs compete in the Southeast Division. Can’t wait to see a round one match against Diamond Ranch.

Playoffs

Schurr: 10-8-0

Montebello: 3-3-0

San Gabriel: 4-5-0

Bell Gardens: 4-8-0

Alhambra: 1-8-0

Keppel: 0-0-0

Notes: The Oilers .500 record is interesting considering they haven’t been to the playoffs since 2002. Does anyone remember how good they were?

Notes: Remember BG doesn’t exactly run a spread offense. Keppel had five seasons in the decade where it failed to register a 100-points.

2006 Schurr: 418

2002 Bell Gardens: 417

2001 Schurr: 144

2000 Bell Gardens: 150
