(“The TEN” is not a top ten but ten items worth being included in “The TEN”) 

1. USC overcomes a 17 point second half deficit and beats Providence 75-71 in a First Four game. The Trojans will face SMU Friday in the East Regional.

2. Boston Red Sox left hander David Price will start the season on the disabled list due to a sore pitching elbow.

3. Receiver/kick returner Cordarrelle Patterson, who spent the first four years of his career with the Minnesota Vikings, signed a two-year contract with the Oakland Raiders.

4. The Los Angeles Rams retained kicker Greg Zuerlein signing him to a three-year, $6.75 million contract.

5. The UC Davis Aggies.

6. Pasadena at Esperanza – CIF State Regional Finals, Saturday 6:00 p.m.

7. Cuonzo Martin leaves Cal to sign a seven-year, 21 million deal at Missouri.

8. Washington fires head coach Lorenzo Romar after 15 seasons.

9. The Lakers have effectively shut down veterans Timofey Mozgov and Luol Deng for the rest of the season to give playing time to the team’s young players. Deng and Mozgov contracts combined total $136 million.

10. Happy Birthday to former USC/NFL quarterback Rodney Peete who turns 51 today.

    Jim Buss should be made to collect bottles and cans until the proceeds pay off the salaries of Deng and Mozgov, wearing nothing but a loin cloth, and whipped mercilessly when he slows down to rest. Jeannie too needs to gather recyclables to pay off the last two years of Kobe’s salary, which she childishly felt was owed to number 24. Since she is female, however, there will be no whippings, and indeed regular water stops (with gourmet brand H20 and lemon) will be made available. These punishments should be monitored by a panel of fifty old timers who can prove they have been Laker fans since at least 1970.
