(Glendora) – Azusa Pacific fell behind 6-0 in the first inning and could never recover in a 10-3 loss to Cal Baptist Friday night.

The Cougars and pitcher Billy Oxford got off to a rocky beginning right off the bat as Cal Baptist posted a six pack in the first highlighted by a grand slam home run by Ryan Williams.

APU got a run back in the third inning when Cam Bennett reached on an error and worked his way around to score on a sacrifice fly by Pablo O’Connor. But before the Cougars could get back into it Cal Baptist came right back with two in the fourth and one more on the fifth to make it 9-1.

In the fourth Nick Plaia took Oxford deep to left and Zach Norris reached on a fielder’s choice and eventually scored on a base hit by Luke Navigato. The third home run of the night for the Baptists came in the fifth when John Glenn, no relation to the astronaut, sent a ball in flight to right field.

Azusa Pacific offered a murmur of protest in the ninth inning when Sean Aspinall homered to left field.

Oxford went five innings for the Cougars and suffered the defeat. Wyatt Wood went three and Caleb Ward finished up.

For CBU, Andrew Bernstein went seven innings to pick up the victory and Morgan Earman threw the last two.

Azusa Pacific has lost the last two to Cal Baptist but is still 30-6 0verall and 17-5 in the PacWest Conference.
