What we’re about to witness in L.A. basketball is a duel between Jerry West and Earvin Johnson for the title of best-in-city. This will take place off the court, as both are to be the brains behind the Clippers and Lakers respectively. In the category of judging talent, I give the nod to West, and in the category of deep pockets, I again give the nod to West and his billionaire owner. Will the Laker name be enough to swing the balance in favor of the purple-and-gold, or will the above advantages provide the lift needed to finally get the Clips over the hump? It should be fun to watch.

Any word on Burns’ development this year?
From T. Peterson: I’ve seen him at a couple of different throws and thought he looked pretty good. I know HC Joe Brown is high on him as well.
