there is nothing like local analysts stating their know it all skill,s when half these schools have new coaches , new kids, a ton of transfers, since CIF doesn’t scare or enforce anything anymore ,The only known is consistent schools with returning starters and same coach. REST IS UNKNOWN ,

Dont kid yourself we will be able to control the clock and run the ball on Schurr. We are too much for them upfront. If are gonna stop the big play and make them drive the ball down the field

A lot of smoke around illegal contact between Stephens and a new coach at Muir. More than one “transfer” apparently involved. Might a be a lot of ineligible players when it is all done.

I won’t go out on an limb and say ER will beat Norwalk, but…. ER outplayed Norwalk in 7/8 quarters last season, Norwalk was almost completely shut down in that playoff game other than that monster RB Jordan Thomas who is now gone. The QB who is the last of the long line of penny brothers is back and will be their biggest weapon, he will give ER fits, but I’m confident the ER staff will figure it out.

Have heard nothing but GREAT things out the lions den thus far. This has come together in a big way. Way to early to make a call on this EM team but we’re on our way. I’m calling a victory 32-17 over BP
I hear South El Monte is gonna take a huge step backwards returning only two starters on offense and 2 starters on defense. Granted One of those offensive starters is Sal Tovar who has to carry another and even heavier load than last year. Eagles get punched in the mouth to start, Alhambra wins big over the Eagles! 38-14
Arroyo looks to be just as good or even better than last year. Camacho has looked good in 7s and Cotero is on the verge of breaking receiving records at Arroyo they also return scat back Ocariz who despite his small frame is used in a huge way. Arroyo redeems themselves from last years decale be Covina and drops a 40 spot on the colts. 42-21
Rosemead is going back to ground and pound and that fits their HUGE lineman just fine. Panthers win 21-17.

Anyone with good working knowledge of the kids in MVL please give who you guys think are the top players in the league.
    3 at each position

El Monte and Baldwin Park, look I really like Jesse as a man and a coach. We saw his big boys up front. he is a bit out matched in this first game. Really, he has a total of about 120 yards and only 1 TD returning from any of their offensive returners from last year. His lineman better be fleet of foot. Baldwin Park has over 1800 yards of offense retuning, as well as 9 TD’S from a Jr QB to 5 TD’s to Jr receivers, They also have 4 rushing Td’s by underclassmen. A 33% of their tackles on defense were from underclassmen. El Monte has less than 25% made by underclassmen. Between El Monte’s Freshman and JV teams they won only one game last year. Baldwin Parks lower levels did not win a game that was posted on Maxpreps. However their Frosh team lost to Northview 27-21 and scored 27 on Chino. El Monte is home is home but Baldwin Park wins by 3 scores at least. Sorry

Jahlique Stephens makes Muir better! Does anyone know if he has to sit out 30 days because of him transferring from Arcadia.

Alhambra and SEM- Toss up. Alhambras improving and SEM has Tovar. If Alhambra can contain him, Inthink they’ll win. If not, a long night.

BP VS EM- BP wins this one going away. But EM might be able to keep the ball away from them.

Burbanks vs Monrovia- game of the week. Hype vs a CIF finalist and a new coach. I’m going with M-Town

Muir vs Compton- Muir’s back and they’re gonna show it in a big way.

Northview vs CO- Farrar has more toys to play with than Perez.

El Rancho vs Norwalk- Norwalk has had a while off-season to think about their revenge. They’ve been thinking about this one a long time!

SAN Marino vs Los Altos- SM won’t be able to handle the size of the Conquerors.

Santa Fe vs Cathedral- The batte of the recruiters. Private school wins out on this one. And big too.

Cal vs Schurr- Schurr has athletes. Cal has size. This should be a good one.

West Covina vs Colony- West Covina in the biggest upset of the week.

Smudgepot- You just have to go
to this one. Best environment in high school football.

Interesting games for sure. It’s possibly one of the last seasons to watch our game the way it was.
The doctor who invented the concussion scare is now saying allowing a kid to play football is child abuse. So changes are coming for sure. Politicians need something to do.
    Anyway here is my take.
Alhambra will have a blow out win they are big working their tails off and solid coaching.
Pasadena poly is a div 10 juggernaut and will have jv team in by halftime.
Schurr is too solid wins by minimum of three scores very solid group.
Rosemead is for real and will be tough game for anyone on the schedule.
Covina handles Arroyo by two scores.
And to the comment of getting a new captain for the ship at alhambra you need to be thrown overboard.
Anyway enjoy the season it was great while it lasted.

South El Monte at Alhambra certainly should be a matchup to watch. It’ll be a good early test for both teams.
The visiting Eagles, who are coming off an 11-2 season, feature 2,000-yard rusher Sal Tovar, and the Moors will counter with their thousand-yard tailback, senior Salman Gurung. Both teams emphasized the run last year, but are seeking to improve their passing games.
South El Monte advanced to the CIF Division XIII semifinals last season, while Alhambra made its first playoff appearance since 2011 and finished with an overall record of 5-6.
The game will be played at Moor Field, located at 6th and San Marino, two blocks north of Valley Boulevard. Kickoff will be at 7 p.m.

Pasadena Poly at Temple City, Muir at Compton? Key clashes?
From T. Peterson: Considering TC has a new coach I think it’s big for those locally that want to see what TC has. Muir is improved. It will be interesting to see what the Stangs can do straight outta Compton.
