1. The NFLPA appeals Dallas Cowboys RB Ezekiel Elliott’s six game suspension.

2. Miami Marlins slugger Giancarlo Stanton has homered in six straight games. He has hit 44 homes runs this season.

3. New York Jets punt/kick returner Lucky Whitehead is out indefinitely with a broken left foot.

4. Ice Cube beats LaVar Ball in a four point challenge at the BIG3 Tournament.

5. The Lakers will open the 2017-’18 season against the Clippers Thursday October 19.

6. Marvin Bagley III, the nation’s number one recruit from the Class of 2018 from Sierra Canyon, made his announcement to reclassify up to the Class of 2017 and will play for Duke this fall.

7. The Philadelphia Eagles release running back Ryan Matthews.

8. On this date in 1920, Ray Chapman of the Indians is beaned in the head by Carl Mays of the New York Yankees and dies the next day in Major League baseball’s only fatality.

9. Happy Birthday to former Azusa Pacific/Kansas City Chiefs running back Christian Okoye who turns 56 today.

10. The Dodgers have sold pitcher Chris Hatcher to the Oakland A’s.

    They must not have cheated skillfully enough. (I say that with all due sarcasm.) The CIF’s lax transfer rule, and its poor enforcement of that lax rule, are turning high school sports into an even worse travesty than they already were.
    It’s also way past time for the private high schools to be put into divisions that are completely separate from those for public schools.

    Sondheimer of the Times is reporting that Dylan Thomas, the Colorado-bound receiver from Santa Fe, has been granted a transfer to Cathedral. I guess it’s not always true that the team which cheats together stays together.

    Does Bagley III’s move mean he can turn pro quicker than other one-and-done guys, or does the NBA have a minimum age?
