It’s Zero Week so this could change in the first ten minutes. Here’s what we got right out of the gate:
1. Sierra Canyon – Jon Ellinghouse always has Trailblazers in the championship mix.
2. Cathedral- Cathedral fans will love this.
3. La Mirada – New coach but same talent?
4. Buena Park – Life after Anthony White begins.
5. Downey – Vikings again look like the class of the SGV League.
6. Charter Oak – Big opener with Northview.
7. Crescenta Valley – Early vacation to Florida for Falcons.
8. St. Francis – HC Jim Bonds likes QB Darius Perrantes.
9. Northview – Steven Comstock enters his senior year.
10. La Serna – Can anybody touch Lancers in the Del Rio?
11. Arroyo – Knights win D-12, now they’ll give D-11 a shot.
12. Los Altos – Hector Spathias has some big shoes to fill.
13. Montebello – Oilers could be tested by Schurr in Almont.
14. West Covina – The Corey Tello era begins.
15. Monrovia – Break out year for Maury Rams?
16. San Dimas – The Saints try to unseat Northview in the Valle Vista.
17. Glendora – Open with Kaiser on Thursday night.
18. Schurr – Spartans have had a great summer.
19. El Rancho – Adrian Medrano’s second year could be special.
20. Muir – Mustangs get RB Jalique Stephens back from Arcadia.
Arroyo did well last year. Any championship is special. You have to be realistic about who they could really beat in tackle football. You know, where the hand the ball off or when sal has to get hit by real people.
@mytwocents
It would be great if San Gabriel surprises people knowing that coach Encinas started so late but alas I doubt it. Hopefully he’ll make a big difference next year.
It would be nice to hear some comments from SG HC Encinas.
I am hearing San Gabriel may surprise some people this year.
Oh by the way, Arroyo is Division 12 champ from 2016 not Division 11. Thats why they are not in the top 10.
@ Hater
If you had said “Division 10” I might say, “yes” Arroyo will compete.Maybe on of the top 8 teams. But Division 8? I want whatever you are smoking dude! They get in because they are league winners 1st, 2nd, or 3rd of the Mission Valley, but it would be just like Carnagie, who is the 3rd worst team in the Southern Section Division 13, who will get in because of their league. Nothing disrespectful, but they just made the playoffs and are now the 3rd worst team in the southland. Gabrielino is rated higher. And that is because their are 2 new teams in Division 13 rated lower then them.
CIFSS Pre Season Division 11 Top 10
1. Culver City
2. Rancho Mirage
3. Oak Park
4. Arcadia
5. Highland
6. Eisenhower
7. Cabrillo
8. Katella
9. Sultana
10. Xavier Prep
Interesting that Arroyo the reigning champ with many returners not even make the top 10.
Hot rod,
He was at aracadia last semater. So how is muir at fault. Obviously Arcadia didn’t care about grades
You’re going to get me in trouble with my wife. She’s an Arroyo alum. Look I’m not trying to diminish what they accomplished. Just like I said they deserve to be ranked among the best lightweights but they don’t deserve to be on the pound for pound list. We can go back and forth on Lomachenko and Ward. My thing is Ward dominated that super 6 Tournament if that wasn’t enough he goes and beat a monster like Kovalev twice although I thought the first fight he was lucky to win. Now Lomo looks to be just as talented and even more unbeatable than Ward is but I have to see him against a Mickey Garcia type fighter where I will have real doubt. I hope the Rigondeaux fight goes through because I can’t stand that guy and Loma will pick him apart. Scary thing he is getting better.
Best pound for pound boxer not fighter. Lomachenko is what 13 fights into his a career a multiple time champ at 2 weight classes. Nobody wants to fight Lomachenko, ppl are willing to fight Ward.
I think Arroyo could compete with anyone from D8 and down. Covina And Schurr are good games for them TC is a annual game and take out Rowland put like a Diamond Ranch or Arcadia would be good. But hey they’re winning and that’s what they’re there to do, even if they set up a monster pre season Monrovia, San Marino, Charter Oak and Paraclete they still would of won that title last year.
Lomachenko is great and can’t fault anyone who would argue that he is the best pound for pound fighter in the world. But he has nowhere the professional resume as Andre Ward. Lomachenkos amatuer record was absolutely ridiculous. But he does have a loss where Ward hasn’t lost since he was 13 years old. Now back to Arroyo they need to start scheduling Monrovia and Arcadia type teams to get the respect they want. Until they get those type of wins under their belt they won’t!
Spathais and Urias will do good for Los Altos but I think there fans are expecting a great season after pass two seasons.
Two good head coaches??? Take a good look a Sanchez resume before you crown the guy. A lot of losing season for a good coach.
@sportsdad
Lomachenko is the #1 boxer in the world sir and he’s 130lbs. but look at the rankings how you want Arrouo deserves to be on here. Sxxt Montebello is on here 2 spots lower and they’re D11 as well.
@ Anonymous (the one talking about Alhambra football):
You’re misquoting me; I never said anything close to that. What I have stated, for the benefit of anyone who’s interested, is that Alhambra has improved significantly during the last couple of seasons.
I’m not into making brash predictions. Whether we are ready to contend for the Almont League title is an open question. We might start getting some kind of idea on Friday night, when we play South El Monte at home. Solid performances in our nonleague games would give us reason for hope.
However, Montebello, which is the four-time defending league champion, will most likely have a good team once again, and Schurr appears to be formidable as well.
If we are to win the Almont League, we’ll probably have to beat both schools on the road. That will be a daunting task, but we don’t see it as an impossible one. We’ll find out fairly soon whether we are up to the challenge.
We’ll play the games one at a time, and we’ll play hard every time out. Let’s see what happens.
@LionsRoar. Focus your attention on your Lions. Don’t hate on Arroyo because they run a better program than EM. That’s just the facts. Schools runs off two fine headcoaches in Sanchez and Macintrye. Hope the new HC does well and is not sent packing.
Are u guys joking with that Wilson nonsense!! Workman just gave it to Wilson in the scrimmage last week. Wilson is soft!! LOS ALTOS BY 4 TDS
It’s not like pound for pound. First off they could be the 10th ranked lightweight because that’s only ranking lightweights. Pound for Pound ranks fighters regardless of weight class. Example Andre Ward is ranked 1 but there would be no way he could beat Anthony Joshua because he’s just too big
I am not concerned about Los Altos, Spathias and Urias will do good there. Heck, they won at Bassett with zero talent so imagine what they can do at LA with talent.
Consider it like a pound for pound ranking in boxing or mma, best p4p guy in mma is 125lbs and in boxing is 130lbs. Can either beat a top heavyweight? No! But for their class they’re the best by far.
So instead of hating on Arroyo cause they got a ring in a lower division give them the props for doing what they did, cause if they would of loss that title game you’d still be talking sxxt.
@ ER, should be an old Whitmont reunion with similar results of 87′. LOL.
@ Anonymous, you can’t be serious. La Serna will dominate by 50 plus.
If it makes you feel better we scrimmaged los altos and they aren’t good this year
How much did it change from week 1 last year to week 10?
Maybe top 20 division 10 and lower teams only
Arroyo will always get the benefit of the doubt. When arroyo is good which they’re good every year the writers will make them great. If they have a good player the writers will deem him great. Just the way it goes. Everything is magnified except the annual early playoff exits, those are always excused.
If Arroyo played Monrovia Glendora they lose by 30 easy.
Oh man we’re a couple of weeks away, but I guess we shouldn’t even show up. Lol…
No kids worry about grades at muir. The few that stay to play have a real party
@sportsdad
So you think Arroyo should not be in the top 20… wish I had your sports knowledge
MVS, will you be profiling one of the best leagues in the area in the Hacienda?
CV I know still will be the league favorite again, like last year.
Heard Paramount is consistently getting better as well and so are we back here in Arcadia. We expect this and next season to be our finest, and knowing Jahlique personally, I would not be surprised if he was deemed ineligible to be honest.

You may be right Oiler 88 and lucky for you the Oilers will get a chance to show the over-rated Dons how undeserving they are.
@Wilson,
I am rooting for Sal Ortiz at Wilson and hope he can make that program competitive again but lets be honest they are not anywhere near the level of Los Altos, at least not yet. Los Altos will obviously not be the same as they were under Ziola. What Los Altos has always had over Wilson, is strength at the lines. The will continue this year and will be the reason why LA will continue their win streak.
Pretty spot on except for The Ranch. They are going to struggle and should not be on this list. Covina or another team I would add.
That’s rated below them
Arroyo would lose by at least 3td to everyone related below them and 5 tds to everyone rated above them. Glendora is rated way too low should be in the middle of the top 10.
MVS you got it right on the money.
The Downey Vikings may be “the class of the SGV league”, but that’s not saying much for this group. The playoffs will reveal the deficiencies of this squad, after which much commotion will be made of how good they might be next year. Rinse and repeat.
Buena Park will not win five games this year.
