(Glendora)—Gavin Todd booted a 42-yard field goal with one second left on the clock to give Central Washington a 17-16 win over Azusa Pacific Saturday night at Citrus College.

After Andrews Elffers gave APU a 7-0 lead on the opening drive with a 1-yard run…strong safety Taliuaki Suliafu stopped a Central Washington drive with 84-yard interception return to Wildcats 7. Jacob Hall added 21-yard field goal and the Zu Nation was up 10-0 late in the first.

The Wildcats Reilly Hennessey capped an 87 yard drive with an 8-yard run with 20 seconds left in the first half. The march took thirteen plays and used 4:53 on the clock. APU remained in the lead, 10-7 at halftime.

Central Washington’s Jordan Tufaga crashed to paydirt from 2-yards out to give the Wildcats a 14-10 lead over APU with 5:27 to play in the third quarter.

The Cougars Gavin McDaniel broke off 74-yard run to the Central Washington 23 but Elffers was intercepted on the next play by the Huskies Tyler Hasty with 3:54 to play in the third quarter.

The Cougs still led 16-14 late in the fourth quarter until Todd’s kick lifted Central Washington.

APU, which fell to Humboldt State last week, fell to 1-2 with the defeat.
