Pacific League
Arcadia (1-2) at Muir (2-1)
Last Year: Arcadia 19-12
Both teams desperately want a win to kick off Pacific League play. Muir had its first setback last week against La Salle while Arcadia beat the Lancers in the opener. The game could be a coin flip. Last year’s contest came down to a big play in the fourth quarter. It should be the same this year. Jahlique Stephens, who last year played for the Apaches, is now carrying the ball for the Mustangs. Muir has the edge at home.
Muir 24 Arcadia 21
Mission Valley League
Mt. View (3-1) at South El Monte (4-0)
Last Year: South El Monte 49-22
The Eagles are playing lights out. It’s not only Sal Tovar but also quarterback Daniel Olmos who can throw it and run it. Mt. View’s ground attack has been impressive. Armando Flores and company have over 1300 yards rushing so far. The problem is can the Vikings shut down South El Monte? Maybe once or twice but not enough to get it done. South moves to 5-0.
South El Monte 35 Mt. View 14
Suburban League
Mayfair (3-1) at La Mirada (0-4)
Last Year: La Mirada 63-13
Last year it was all La Mirada. My how things have changed. This year the Matadores are getting blown out on a weekly basis while the Monsoons were on a three game win streak before meeting a monster named Santa Margarita last week. Now make no mistake the Matadors have scheduled everybody except the Oklahoma Sooners, but they haven’t even competed. They’ve been outscored 149-14 in the four games. Mayfair has just the team that can give La Mirada fits. It’s hard to believe that the gap, that was 50 points last year, has closed that much between these two teams. But the truth is that it has. Mayfair gets the W.
Mayfair 27 La Mirada 21
South Hills (2-0) at Charter Oak (4-0)
Last Year: Charter Oak 35-21
South Hills is on the way back. In fact the Huskies may be all the way back after an impressive 2-0 start. They gave Charter Oak all it wanted last year. But Charter Oak is improved as well. The Chargers have destroyed everything in their path including a shutout of Damien last week. South Hills will come out fighting, maybe even grab an early lead. But in crunch time the Chargers will make the plays. Charter Oak remains undefeated.
Charter Oak 31 South Hills 21
Bonita (2-2) at Diamond Ranch (2-2)
Last Year: Bonita 39-14
J.P. Andrade has been throwing the ball all over the lot – to the tune of over 1400 yards in the first four games. It hasn’t always equated to wins however as the Bearcats are 2-2. Diamond Ranch is also 2-2 but easily could be 4-0 with a break here or there. The Panthers lost by three points to Ayala and by a touchdown to Chino Hills in overtime. Andrade may again get his but D-Ranch, with a steady defense and an offense that does enough, emerges with the victory. With West Covina and Chino down, the Panthers will be in the thick of the Hacienda hunt.
Diamond Ranch 24 Bonita 14
Pomona (1-3) at Northview (2-2) (Covina District Field)
Last Year: Northview 35-0
Northview needs to take out some frustration after a tough loss to Don Lugo last week and Pomona may be just the medicine the Vikes need. Pomona did beat El Rancho in overtime two weeks ago but other than that it’s been a rough go for the Red Devils. Northview has shown signs but has also taken its lumps. Charter Oak put it on them in Zero Week but then again…that’s Charter Oak. Everything should come together here. The offense clicks and the defense makes enough stops for Marcel Perez’ crew. Northview gets it done.
Northview 38 Pomona 20
Whittier (2-2) at Schurr (3-1)
Last Year: Whittier 27-7
Whittier has raised some eyebrows this year. The Cardinals hung with Montebello putting up 40 and last week they took care of Monrovia. Schurr righted the ship last week with a big win over West Covina. The Spartans only loss was at the hands off undefeated Arroyo. Schurr, who turned the ball over three times in the loss to the Knights, will need to avoid turnovers to keep Whittier at bay. The Spartans have the weapons though and they should all be on display this Friday night. Schurr gets the win.
Schurr 28 Whittier 14
Bell Gardens (1-2) at San Marino (3-1)
Last Year: San Marino 41-18
The Titans aren’t all the way back to the team they were two years ago but they are off to a nice start. They lost the opener to Los Altos but have won three straight since scoring over 40 points per game. Bell Gardens is still in rebuilding mode. It may take a year or two under Margarito Beltran for the Lancers to get back on track. San Marino gets the jump and wins going away. The Titans are gearing up for Rio Hondo League.
San Marino 42 Bell Gardens 17
@ ?, @ coach Frank I think the point is that Frankie is a great kid, works hard on and off the field and never complains. Good job Coach Frank.
Nice job Arcadia on the win, the entire team showed up to play.
35 points tonight Apache No. Also Arcadia has fewer transfers than any area school. Muir had 11 playing tonight and La Salle has 12. Quite trying to say Arcadia has a bunch of transfers when the reality is they do not. They have a few and their few is far fewer than anyone else in the shiv.
Ok ok you got me…. How about since it counted….
Goodnite.
@Coach Frank; Do you also offer animal sacrifices at 4.0 in kindergarteners (do they really have GPA) altar?
My son’s been a 4.0 student since kindergarten. Minus a 3.89 2nd semester of his freshman year at Arcadia…
Apachez 35 Muir 19
Muir puts a lot of work into its warm-up routine… Its Nice!
@Coach Frank- Have they posted grades already?
I WONDER WHAT THE EXCUSES WILL BE TONIGHT AFTER MONROVIAS L TO DAMIEN, SURE WERE PLENTY AFTER WHITTIER LAID THEIR BEAT DOWN. NOTE TO DAMIEN FANS, DO NOT , IN ANY WAY, BRAG ON THIS BLOG ABOUT BEATING THE CATS BECAUSE YOU WILL BE BASHING THE KIDS AT MONROVIA, PLUS YOU’LL FIND OUT THE INJURY REPORT THAT WILL TRY TO LESSEN THE W. WHILE IGNORING THE FACT BY POINTING THAT OUT, THEY’RE BASHING THE BACK UPS WHO WERE PLAYING. SERENITY NOW
Thanks Oiler 88… 4.0 student as well.
MHS…..here’s the difference ….we have a defense. Keep your puppies healthy because our dogs will be coming in a couple of weeks.
I’m calling it today. MV will beat South, everyone is sleeping on the Vikings, but they don’t know they’re a different animal. 31-13 Final. MV
Maxie is full of himself and doesn’t get the job done! Only brings shame to the program. 10 pts a game with his transfers
@ coach Frank, you got a good son willing to play any spot the team needs him to play. Good luck the rest of the season!
Whittier puts up 35 on schurr
TIM PETERSON THIS IS WRONG!!! To be biased, muir will never be the same as before…
NO APACHES DOWN!!! WE WILL SHOW THEM AND BEAT JOHN MUIR LIKE LA SALLE DID!!! Randy Ludwig is a solid kicker!! We will stop jahlique!!!
I’m taking SEM big over Mountain View. South just hands down better. Coaching staff much more experienced than MV’s. SEM too much talent. Final 52- 12
We aren’t worried about transfers and we are focused on this weeks opponent… you BG and Montebello dudes need to stop trollin, your turn will come. Sparta is ready to go tomorrow!!
Friday night will find me on the Diamond Ranch hill top. Diamond Ranch as usual has been blessed with a wheel barrel full of athletes. Bonita fans have been debating the state of affairs of Bonita football. Bonita sports the top yardage thrower in the SGV averaging 14 yards per completion. This I gotta see. Diamond Ranch according to insiders is hugely under-rated. Both teams will benefit greatly in their respective rankings with a win. This is a big game.
Thanks for the pic of my son, Mid Valley!!!!
Expecting a great game tmw…..
I do think South El Monte will win but Mountain View is much improved so the game should be much closer. It would not surprise me one bit if Mountain View wins this game. With both teams running the double wing/wing-T, this game should end in an hour (LOL).
My two picks this week as I am one game above .500 with my Don Lugo pick last week: Warren over St. Paul and Marshall over Rosemead.
Why would anybody want to start this again. Spartans focus your energy on Whittier.
The Oc at Arcadia has scored 30 points in three games. Ummm
Do any BG players want to transfer to Schurr?
