Argumosa Resigns at Diamond Bar

By Tim Peterson

(Diamond Bar) – Kevin Argumosa has stepped down as the head coach at Diamond Bar after just one year sources confirmed Thursday.

The Brahmas went 0-10 last year in Argumosa’s only season. Argumosa, who was formerly the defensive coordinator at Los Altos, took over for Marcus Hughes who resigned after the 2016 season. Argumosa is the second Palomares League coach to leave this week. Bonita’s Ibis Aguilar was dismissed on Monday.

Diamond Bar will begin the search for a new head football coach immediately.

OK, Trump, my take isn’t real just because you say it isn’t?
I believe the matter we’re discussing is about the use of influence. I would never call it theft; someone must have agreed to that arrangement for it to happen.
    Happy holidays, sir.

Now Vroman you are just responding with no real take. Of course laziness and greed are human sinful traits but that does not translate into taking football money unless you are claiming theft at Alhambra? I’am not claiming such by my post are you?

@ “Trump”: I wouldn’t call it liberal or conservative politics. I believe that what we’re looking at is laziness and greed, which are human traits that cut across ideological lines.

That’s liberal politics for you. Football puts butts in the seats. Filled seats mean ticket, parking, hot dog and t-shirt money. PTA notices that and though never caring about football before takes over the money end claiming comrades must share equally. Football gets screwed, now produces inferior product and no more butts in seats.

Diamond bar has some good athletes. Too many mistakes cost them from being in games they could have won. 21 interceptions and 11 fumbles usually does not help a coaches game plan. Did the coaches throw the picks and fumble the ball? Did the coach have the receivers run the wrong route? Or tell the kids to miss their blocking assignments? Kids make mistakes but it’s always the coach that takes the blame.
Parents are always too quick to put the blame everywhere but where it belongs.

I was doing some research on this coaching staff and they are very inconsistent. Every other year they make it to the playoffs, A good coaching staff builds the program and is in the playoffs every year like CO, Glendora, SH, NV, SD, Covina etc… I think this staff was way overrated and was exposed this year when they had to coach up the kids. When I was going to the games I was hoping for a turnaround that never happened. Now looking back I think the DB administration did the right thing and fired this staff. We have athletes in this area, we have great facilities, we have great parent support, we just need a real coaching staff.

And, just to think, the PTA used to have such a “squeaky-clean” image!

  8. December 20, 2017 - 6:09 pm | Permalink

    Ron,
Ours get ticket sales and concessions. The PTA even put a lock on the fridge inside so Football boosters could not use it when they ran concessions for track meets and Pee wee football at CDF. District bought the fridges and we had to complain to district to be able to use it.
I am so anti PTA it is not funny. They even tried to force all teachers and employees to join. That did not go over too well.

@ Colt74: The Alhambra School District PTA gets all of the concessions revenue from football games at Moor Field. That’s been going on since at least the early 2000’s.

@ Colt74 Great post! Agree w/ you 100% on those types of parents. I would say those make up about a 1/3 of the current player/parents on a team. The other 1/3 are the parents who know waaay more than the coach & criticize every little thing they do. Guess what Mom & Dad if the coach thought he could run something else he would. They are always running the things they PRACTICED on during the week & running schemes that give them the best chance to compete ( while trying not to get lil Johnny killed ). W/ over 1/2 of a team in football for the wrong reasons, now we know why it’s not a very attractive job for the good coaches out there.

Although I would love to see head football coaches be full time, it’ll never happen. My reasonable proposition is a $10,000 stipend for football and $6,000 for other head coaching positions. They should make more than that, but that’s a start.

Having one eye does not mean you have to be myopic.
The football atmosphere of today is nothing like it was 30 years ago. You need to look no farther than the stands on an average Friday night.
Football coaches SHOULD be a full time on campus teacher. Which teacher gets the pink slip to make room for the new football coach?
Covina Unified took all the gate money from football games and gave the snack bars to PTA to run. The football teams get zip. Teams are hurting for gear and needed equipment/uniforms. Boosters can only do so much and with all the area schools begging businesses for support the pickings are slim to none, and slim is on vacation.
Every home game we have have to scramble to get parents to run chain gang. Parents that were doing it flaked. Parents that were supposed to bring drinks/snacks for games flake. The support is just not there. In the last 4 years I have played secret santa to the tune of just over $4200 for various niceties for things kids needed/games/ and or practices….and I have no kids going to Covina or that ever did. Why? Because 43 years ago my coaches kicked me in the ass and helped me start down the road to growing up. I’m still no wheres close to repaying that debt. Covina and Northview are down to 1200 kids each. California public schools are broke. The vast majority of parents don’t care about HS sports anymore. After school sports are an extended day care for their kids. Nothing more.
So while having the coaches be full time on campus teachers would be nice it is just one of many things that need to be addressed before HS football for the public schools in the area gasps it’s last breath.

It is no secret that the schools that do well in football usually have good administrators, the one that do bad have terrible administrators. Example Blair, Keppel, Bassett, D Bar, etc… Why does SH, Northview and Covina do well? They have a great superintendent. It all starts at the top.

There is definitely a problem here, it is a problem we cannot solve on a 2 bit football blog.

Amazing how grown men would go on a blog and stand up for admin, how would he know that they are a great administration,

If the idiots who hired him fire him that fast there is the proof they had no idea what they were doing in the first place. Answer that one Einstein.

ARAM TOLEGIAN wrote possibly the best article on the subject just before he was fired. Coincidence perhaps. A football coach should be a full time teaching position, with all the perks a regular teacher gets.

Stop playing around and lying to ourselves, there is no other sport that has captured the interest of a nation of people like high school football, it is the only place that all the interest is driven to it is a part of the american fabric,

In all reality we know that you will not even remember being in most of your high school classes but you will never forget your varsity football coach and every speech he gave 30 years from the last game.

The issue with coaches wont go away until the head coach is given the respect he deserves, and more value and time is placed on hiring men of wisdom knowledge and true experience, not pups and wet nose novices, there should be a coaches union and a coaches internship.

when morons like ANONYMOUS MAKE STATEMENTS LIKE THE ADMINISTRATION IS GREAT AND SAYS THAT OTHER COACHES ARE SUB-PAR , WE CAN SEE THAT A DONKEY LIKE THAT HAS NO PROBLEM UNDERMINING SEVERAL STAFFS BUT CAN SPEAK FOR POLITICIANS HE KNOWS NOTHING ABOUT, WHAT A FIRST CLASS A** KI**ER.

You get the government you deserve, and when you don’t watch what is going on in public schools you get complete idiots teaching your kids and hiring your coaches.

I’m waiting for Mr Anonymous to respond, or MRS Anonymous to respond, after your last few comments there is a 60% chance you are a female, not that I have a problem with that but just like to know where a man comes from.

DON’T WORRY I WILL TELL YOU WHERE TO GO BUT NOT VERY WELL BECAUSE I ONLY HAVE ONE EYE.

There has been a lot of movement in the sgv coaching circle that has gone unreported. This is the new reality. Schools don’t like to report these changes for fear of bad publicity and the quieter the better. They can hire inexperienced walk-ons or fire successful coaches without having to be held accountable. Plus other than this site nobody gives a hoot.

But to be hired in late April and fired in November? Coaches at every level are given three years to build a program. I would not want to coach for that Administration. Now with many coaches leaving or asked to resign , How long before Coach Harrison is ask to leave what has happened over at Norwalk high school I remember seating up in the stands with pride and felling the respect that was given to the city and the pride in the community seems like coach Harrison has not done a very good job with the talent that was left him and a program that was well structured when Coach Cisneroz left now with most of the talent gone will it be another 24 years before they bet LM again how long will this community have to watch this program erode before they stop the bleeding

@ BoHi and Truth, Your comment made me think, so I checked. 18 0-10 teams last season in all the divisions. Not a huge number when you consider how many teams play in the SS. What is surprising is to see the number of 2-8 teams along with 1 win teams. Serrano, Salesian, and Crespi. All 1 win teams. MLK? With all of their students 1-9. Look at the schools that play marginal football in terms of records. I believe it is a world of haves and have nots. BoHi, that is the bottom line. Isn’t it?

The head coach takes responsibility however there are so many external factors that make or break a season. #1 talent level, some of these coaches walk into positions where the senior and junior class won 3 games total as underclassmen, you can’t turn sh*t into lemonade. Lack of talent combined with local recruiters poaching any of the good talent leaves some of these public schools dead as a door nail. I applaud him for having taken the challenge but they could have had nick Saban out there with the same kids and it’s 0-10 also.
