(Hacienda Heights) – Hector Spathias is out as the head coach at Los Altos sources confirmed Wednesday.
Spathias spent just one year at Los Altos with a record of 7-4 overall. The Conquerors went 3-2 in the Hacienda League and lost in the first round of the CIF Division V playoffs to Moorpark 42-0. Spathias previously was the head coach at Bassett.
Travis Brown, a Los Altos alum who most recently was the head coach at Cantwell, is rumored to be the frontrunner to replace Spathias but as of yet nothing is confirmed.
Wrong the team Spat inherited were all juniors that were backups to to all the seniors that left and were apart of what Ziola built….Ziola last incoming freshman class that he didnt end up coaching.
A coaching buddy made inquiries to Los Altos regarding their head coaching position, the AD responded they have already selected another candidate to fill the position. It was never flown on CIFSS or edjoin. It was never flown anywhere. I would imagine that when Brown became available, they reached out to him if not sooner.
Coach Urias was a great coach at Bassett. He wasn’t there everyday his last season but kids understood why. Living out of state and at least coming 3 days out of week he shared his knowledge and love for the game. Spathais and Urias ,Williams and rest off staff were good coaches. Nothing but respect for Spat and his staff from me.
They are hiring a Low level Coach like Brown from a DIV 12 school, really….what a joke. They need Coaches from the OC or divison 1 – 5 minimum….. Los Altos will never be the same without HLP popwarner or a Clueless Jr All American Cougars program that only has Flag and Jr Midgets program and nothing in-between.
@anonymous I agree. My son was also at every practice Tuesday & Thursday Coach Spatt and crew where doing there best to train and prepare this young talented group for the season to come, I also know they had some 7 on 7s planned to help our boys get better. I honestly believe the people with negative comments are parents who’s kids didn’t play much, which they for get this high school football not pop Warner
Before they let Spatt go I seen some of there practices and I’ll tell you one thing they do have some young talent I like the shifty running back they have, speedy receivers and above average defence. I also seen some strong defensive lineman. So hopefully this new coach knows what to do with these kids
