Lady Apaches Use Sixth Inning Uprising in Upset Win

(Arcadia) – La Salle fell short on a comeback against Arcadia as they were defeated, 9-7.

The Lady Apaches battled from behind twice against Lancer pitcher Allie Forillo to get the lead in the half of the fourth inning and never looked back in the upset win.

Arcadia’s Sam Miller went four for four and was a home run shy of hitting for the cycle.  Miller finished with two RBI’s and scored three times.

Miller’s double in the fourth, plated Emily McQuaid and Jessica Mueller to get the lead at 7-6.

Early in the game it appeared as though La Salle would have their way against the struggling Lady Apaches as they chased starting pitcher Patricia Stark after she faced eight batters in two innings.

The Lancers were able to jump out to a 3-0 before Arcadia had a plate appearance and 5-3 after two innings.

The Lady Apaches would call on Kenzie Grimes early in the second inning to take over in the circle and managed to allow two runs in the final six innings for the win.

La Salle first baseman Colleen McWilliams continued her torrid-hitting with a three for four and scored three times.  All three hits were doubles.

The top of sixth saw McWilliams score the tying run as Victoria Baltazar sacrificed her home.

After Grimes retired the side in the sixth, the Lady Apaches sent eight batters to the plate in the bottom half of the sixth as they scored twice on four hits.  Miller scored on Lisa Rosas’ single and Grimes would soon follow on a Forillo wild pitch.

The Lancers made one last attempt at tying the game with the bases loaded only to have Meghan Allen ground out to short on the bang-bang play to end the game.
