If I’m not mistaken. Pete’s nephew transferred to Montebello his junior year but sat out his 5 games! No fake address and he was related to Coach Pete. Once again you say he recruits? I still have not got a name or answer? Who has he recruited? Other than Tapia, Rivera or the kids that leave Schurr (usually eligible at Montebello because sat out a year of being ineligible) can you please list a name of player or a school that they have got a player or transfer from? DO NOT ignore. Name somebody! Not your usual hot air!

Arroyo in the 70’s was not Arroyo in the 80’s, 90’s or 2000’s. Don’t be a clown. Times change. To say they turn duds into studs is not realistic. They get the BEST El Monte kids every year. They lure kids to Arroyo before and after high school. AGAIN, if you don’t agree with me 100% you are not from EM. I was personally approached by Arroyo coaches. I lost potential teammates to Arroyo. It’s not hard to coach talent. Put either one of those guys at Mt View and it’s an early retirement for either of them.

TP is not the biggest homer for Arroyo, that would be me.
Before McKinnon, Arroyo was the doormat for any league they were in. Since McKinnon and Singiser 25+league titles. Arroyo takes the 200 lb. roly poly and turns them in to 220 lb. linemen that dominate. That is not recruiting that is coaching. As for division placement, Arroyo has no say as to which division CIF places them in. They just play without complaining. They also don’t care what division any other school is in. As for Arroyo sending kids to Ledesma, if that is what’s best to meet the educational needs of the student, that’s where they go. Some of you make it sound like Arroyo is the only school that has problem students. What a wonderful world it would be if you were right.

    @Wow,

I don’t share anything with Pete. He’s done a great job while at MHS. He will be just fine. Read my post you imbecile. I said if they get cleared then so be it. Otherwise coach up ! You must be one of those Schurr coaches!
As for Tapia, his parents both went to MHS. He came from Victorville. As for Rivera, he’s Pete’s nephew. They both came and got cleared by CIF and yes dominated. Your comments just take you straight to stupid as always.
Stop pointing fingers because I can do the same about your poacher coaches who can’t do it with their own talent. Talk about being irrelevant!!

Maybe you should share the same confidence with Oily Pete. He’s the one worried! You thought your run was long to last Oilers. Nahhhhhhhhh that’s over with. You talk about coaching up????? So yeah with Rivera and Tapia you had success. Neither those kids transfer there isn’t no league championship. Not much coaching there just recruiting by the Oiler coaches. You guys are finally relevant. Yayyyy congrats lol. League champs ain’t nothing bro.

    @ Spartan on top?

Why would any Coach from MHS care about what’s going on at your school? You’re acting like you have a dynasty there! You guys finally win a League title after 5 years and your pounding your chest. I witnessed your lower levels this past year and you definitely need all those supposed transfers you got coming in. Don’t toot your horn. If you get these kids coming in who are we to question it? That’s up to CIf. No us. If it’s legitimate then it will play out. If it’s not, then oh well. At the end of day, we don’t care. But maybe try playing by the same rules as everyone else. Tell your coaches to stop poaching and start coaching up. That’s the difference. Schurr used to be a place with tough homegrown kids. Now it’s just a bus station. Kids coming and going all the time. Tell your magical staff that hasn’t ever won anything to man up and stay away from other schools players! But like I stated earlier, if they get cleared then so be it. We will be ready as always..

TP is the biggest Arroyo homer around. In his eyes they do no wrong. They’ve won the titles and will keep winning. That’s a given. They get the best kids every year and they recruit from the other MVL schools. If you think that statement is “hating” you are not from El Monte. I’ve seen it first hand. The head coach doesn’t recruit, it’s his cronies. Put McKinnon or Singiser at Mt. View and they DO NOT have the same success. Not even close. If Arroyo was the for real real deal they would have won CIF before the new alignments. And they had no business being in D12 the year they won CIF. Rosemead was in D11. Can someone explain that?

Don’t worry these kid’s fathers who walk around and say I dare CIF to challenge my son’s eligibility or these coaches who lie to these parents and say don’t worry CIF won’t do anything. Sometimes they’re right and sometimes they’re wrong. We’ll see how this plays out. If they’re right then kudos to them for getting all these players. If they’re wrong hope they have a plan for other players. One kid is now under review so let’s wait and see.

@ Prognosticators: Your reference to the Beach Boys was pretty cool.
On a serious note, there are some people who only believe in winning, and they don’t care how they do it. We have that type of individual sitting in the White House right now (if he’s not down in Florida golfing at Mar-A-Lago). What a travesty.
From T. Peterson: He may know the Beach Boys but he’s clueless on everything else.

    Hey Rhonda,
Help me Rhonda help help me Rhonda understand this… So, because Arroyo won a CIF championship it’s ok for them to be sending their athletes to Ledesma continuation school? Oh and yea I haven’t seen the great marching band just yet but I plan to!!! (Sigh) but, I have heard of so many negative things come out of Arroyo. But a ring makes that all okay? I’m not in the MVL and certainly not jealous of any arroyo success I just can’t believe that statement you made.

Football is a privilege to play it can build so many life long lessons and forge life long bonds between teammates. But, when coaches and people get their priorities mixed up it can teach the opposite. Allowing bad characters to play simply because they are talented makes nobody better.
I’m an ER fan, I’ve shared my opinions about Boomer, one things I will say is his kids do not get in trouble! Bad decisions are not tolerated! For that Medrano gets my thumbs up!
There’s a right and wrong way to win
From T. Peterson: Sorry we don’t allow comments that take shots at 17-year old kids. Nice try though. I’ve heard negative things come out of probably every local school I’ve covered but I don’t report it or mention it. I’m not hear to denigrate kids. Plus a lot of what you “hear” is bull crap. Don’t be so naïve to believe it all. Also aren’t you the same guy that said Los Altos didn’t go to the CIF Finals twice under Ziola?

Every year teams/coaches will go out and get players. Competition makes EVERYONE better. If a coach isn’t trying to improve his team by adding depth and competition, then he’s doing his team a disservice. Strength is in numbers.

No disrespect but if your kid is worried about playing time then tell him to work harder. Do something about it and play his DELETED off. This way he earns what he gets.

Your comment shows how little you know. Both public and private schools play under The same CIF rules. From my perspective public schools are finally promoting themselves and are decade behind private schools in that respect.

LOL! You are talking about the exceptions and not the norm. If you take all the high school athletes and break them down into three categories: Transferred once, transferred twice, and transferred three times. The “transferred once” category may be 0.5% (one in two hundred student/athletes), the “transferred twice” category may be 0.1% (one in one thousand student/athletics), and the “transferred three times” category may be 0.02% (one in five thousand student/athletics). As to your question, what about them? My answer would be the same, what about them? Families can do whatever they feel is best for them.

    @Coacher,
If Arroyo is sending players to Ledesma, they are sending them there with CIF Championship rings in Football and Wrestling. Also, last I checked, Arroyo is a Gold Ribbon school with great sports teams and visual/performing arts programs (have you seen their Marching Band?! They are impressive.). So I’d say all the other schools in the area, especially MVL, are super jealous, and so it seems are you.
    From T. Peterson: Well said.

@ Funny and My Two Cents,

Don’t get too riled up, its obvious that this “parent” is an Oiler coach who cries when he doesn’t get his way and is trying to create controversy. At Schurr H.S. any parent is welcome to attend any of our practices to observe and schedule a meeting with our head coach to voice their concerns. Good luck to everybody and keep working hard.

What about those parents that transfer their kids from school to school (3 to 4 schools ). Not allowing them to enjoy their high school years because daddy thinks his son should be starting. Poor kids , having to live out dads unfulfilled athletic dreams.

@TMPP, Lol! If your son won’t get any playing time, it is because he isn’t better than the other players. Though it may be true, “Hard work beats talent if talent doesn’t work hard.” However, if talent also works equally hard, than talent is going to win out 9/10 times. The only exception might be if the player’s daddy is the HC of the team. Transfers has nothing to do with why your son is not playing. Sports is all about competition. This isn’t little league, he is not guaranteed to play.

See this is the problem exactly. So little Johnny has express to his parent that he now has to compete for a position. He might of thought or had the expectation that his position was his already. Sometimes you work and get the short end of the stick, life isn’t fair.
I’m sure this will be the same kid complaining about his boss hiring new employees and him being concerned about losing his job to the new employees. You’re not teaching the kid anything good as a parent if you’re going to tell the kid his situation is unfair. It’s LIFE!

Taking selfies with recruiters is almost as bad as promoting yourself for getting a visit from a recruiter but disguising it by putting down coaches for taking selfies with recruiters.

    Mr. Peterson,

What are your thoughts about outright blatant recruiting by public high schools? I don’t care about private schools. I’m talking about public schools that have district boundaries and bound by CIF rules.

Can you address this issue.? A lot of people have been posting what the new supposed rules are with CIF and that students can go to any school they want and that there will be no sanctions by CIF.

How can a public school all of a sudden have 13 new players on their team all of whom played and attended a different high earlier this year? How is this allowed? Can administrators be held accountable for allowing this?

My child attends this particular school up on the hill and it’s not fair that now my son wont be getting any playing time because all these new kids are popping up. He’s been working hard for years.

Please help me understand the rules.

Programs are going to sell programs with those “recruiter selfies”, especially if they have got kids out. I don’t know if Arroyo could do that because they only get their kids out to Ledesma.
