Steven Rivera will be back wearing the "10" for Arroyo in 2010

Good Afternoon!

T-Minus-142 Days until “The Mid Valley Classic”

While Temple City continues its search for a new football HC, the program is starting to take on the appearance of the Titanic. The ship is going down and there aren’t enough lifeboats to go around. Coaches are leaving, players are getting ready to split…

Meanwhile…Arroyo is gearing up from Vinny Martinez in the trenches to the versatile (underrated) Sam Torres, to the talented Steven Rivera and Mikey Vasquez in the backfield, the Knights are gearing up for a special 2010.

Arroyo needs to survive its non-league schedule so it can make quick work of the rest of the Mission Valley League. El Monte is expected to be better, Rosemead of course is always there…but I’m thinking Jim Singiser and his staff will be taking no prisoners come league play, especially with only two playoff spots guaranteed.

Right now “The Mid Valley Classic” is looking like it is going to be a shutout.

Note to Temple City Fans: If you don’t like what’s happening with your program, then write some letters, get some petitions together and send them to everybody from the mayor, to the chamber, to the high school, to the school board. Rams football is the last thing the TC community has with the ability to bring everyone together.

I’ve said it before, its not the Camellia flower but football that is your identity. Its time for the citizens to dive in. Form a Sea Party campaign (“Shafted Enough Already”), and hold responsible those making the final decisions.

We’ve seen the names of the top three candidates…we like them all. But one of them needs to be hired.

…And yes! Make an exception and exemption for football because it is that important to the town.

A text came in asking me what I thought of Walnut’s chances this season. I answered back that I thought their chances were better last year. All the running backs are gone. So is there quarterback.

On paper the Mustangs return wide receiver/tight end Aubrey Coleman, but somebody has to be able to get him the ball. On defense they have a pair of solid linebackers in Alejandro Restrepo and Randy Collins. You can throw Coleman into the mix on defense as well. He’s good and potentially great on that side of the line of scrimmage. Coleman, at 6’6” 215, committed to Washington two weeks ago.

Walnut’s non-league schedule is very manageable (Troy, Covina, Claremont, Northview), but its in the Hacienda League they are going to run into trouble against Westco, Rowland, Bonita, and Diamond Ranch. It will be tough for Michael O’Shields group to crack the top four and earn a playoff spot.

Last Add Walnut: The Mustangs haven’t reached CIF since 2004.

I certainly hope the Rams weren’t scared off from Ndamukong Suh because the last Nebraska defensive lineman they drafted was Adam Carriker. How disappointing was Carriker for the Rams? After being the 13th overall selection in the 2007 draft all St. Louis could get in return was an exchange of fifth and seventh round draft choices with the Redskins.

Do you think the Steelers Dennis Dixon is a little put out with the team reacquiring Byron Leftwich from Tampa Bay for a seventh round pick?

What is it like to be an Orioles fan these days? Fourteen games in and already 8.5 back, I think its time they activate Mark Belanger and put Mike Flanagan in the rotation.

Eleven years ago today I was sitting in this same room, writing Fanview, when news broke on Columbine.

In many ways memories of that particular day make everything else moot. Who gives a rip about the Lakers, Kings, The Mid, the Trib, Ben Roethlisberger… I understand life goes on, but your heart still has to break for those parents who lost their kids in this massacre.

In light of it, my bills, my struggles, my pains, my aggravations all seem to fall into a more appropriate perspective.

Stay thirsty my friends…
