Game Night: Week 6

Ernesto Camacho and the Arroyo Knights host rival Rosemead.

All kickoffs are at 7:00 p.m. unless otherwise indicated

Thursday September 27

Pacific

Burroughs (1-4) at Crescenta Valley (5-0) at Glendale

Crescenta Valley is looking to run the Pacific table after knocking off Muir two weeks ago. The Falcons aren’t about to let Burroughs stand in its way. The Indians are coming off a win over Glendale but it won’t help them here. CV rolls.

Crescenta Valley 38 Burroughs 10

Friday September 28

Almont

Schurr (1-4) at Alhambra (5-0) Moor Field

Is Alhambra for real? Sure the Moors have beaten everybody in their path but their schedule has more cupcakes than the bakery section at Vons. Schurr has been getting beat…bad. The Spartans did manage a win over Chino but their four losses were uglier than a cat named Frankenstein. That being said they are hungry and are kicking off Almont League play. What better way then to get your season turned around? Alhambra won’t go down easy but the Moors will go down. Schurr gets off the floor.

Schurr 24 Alhambra 21

Del Rio

La Serna (5-1) at California (3-3)

La Serna is still smarting from that one point loss to Warren last week. The Lancers would like nothing better than to open Del Rio play with a W. Cal hung with San Dimas before falling a touchdown short. La Serna can score. That was evident even in their only loss last week. The question is can the Condors make enough stops? Not this week. The Lancers get started early and never look back. La Serna cruises to victory.

La Serna 37 California 13

Hacienda

Diamond Ranch (3-2) at Los Altos (2-3)

Diamond Ranch is looking to get well after getting clubbed by La Habra last week. Although it is La Habra. Los Altos started off winning its first two but has suddenly lost three straight. A Hacienda League opening win for either team would be huge. With Charter Oak down this year the Panthers have their sights set on league title. Los Altos doesn’t have enough. D Ranch gets the win.

Diamond Ranch 28 Los Altos 14

Mission Valley

Rosemead (3-2) at Arroyo (4-1)

A little luster has been taken off of this game. Arroyo is still at the top of the MVL but Rosemead just ain’t what it used to be. It’s still a game that the Knights can’t afford to overlook. As for the Panthers if El Monte dropped 52 on them what kind of damage will Arroyo do? And if Ernesto Camacho airs out a couple of touchdowns early does Rosemead have the firepower to rally? The answer would be no. Arroyo jumps on Rosemead and scores early and often. The Knights biggest test in the MVL will be El Monte.

Arroyo 42 Rosemead 14

Palomares

Glendora (4-1) at Ayala (5-0)

Big game to kick off the Palomares. Ayala is undefeated while Glendora has stumbled just once. Ayala has done its damage against some pretty good opponents knocking off Diamond Ranch and Chino Hills in the process. Glendora had a big win over Damien and also took care of Los Altos. Both teams have high hopes for league and beyond. Glendora needs to get out to a quick start and put some pressure on Ayala. If the Bulldogs establish a lead early it could be long night for the Tartans. It could be a game that isn’t settled until the fourth quarter. Ayala has a little too much. The Bulldogs prevail.

Ayala 24 Glendora 17

Colony (3-2) at Bonita (5-0, 4-1 Forfeit) at San Dimas

Another Palomares league game that will have a lot of meaning early. Do you get the feeling the Palomares is the toughest league in the area? Again a win for either team could set the tone. Bonita is coming off a sloppy win over Covina. The Bearcats committed four turnovers despite putting up 40 points. Colony has lost its last two games, to La Serna and a 48-14 loss to Redlands last week. If the Bearcats can avoid the turnovers they should be fine. You wonder how many points they would have dropped if not for the miscues. Colony will give Bonita all it can handle but if the Bearcats can keep it clean, they’ll come out on top.

Bonita 35 Colony 28

San Gabriel Valley

Downey (2-3) at Paramount (1-4)

Downey’s schedule has been so brutal early on that going into league play will be a break. The Vikings have played Alemany…Santa Margarita…who’s next Alabama? Paramount’s schedule has been no picnic either with losses to St. John Bosco and Bishop Amat on the docket. Both teams are physical and like to get after it. Paramount will make some big plays early and may even gain an early advantage. But in the end Downey’s talent will emerge. The Vikings will have control by half time and pull away in the third quarter. Downey wins the league opener.

Downey 41 Paramount 21

    Lets see here,
” The Phantoms were moving on Amat all night.” I did not see the game, but as Cathedral was moving the ball all night did they finish the drive and score touchdowns? Looks like Amat did.
” The Phantom’s had two miscues that gave Amat 14 points, that’s the difference in the game” huh, with a 42 to 21 final score, that’s a three touchdown difference, Amat still wins without the 14 points Cathedral “SUPPOSEDLY” gave them. I’m Just curious though, is it possible the Cathedral miscues could have been caused by Amats defense? again I did not see the game
” If the Phantoms recover the onside kick they go in and score” I’m not connecting the dots here, since when does recovering an onside kick automatically equate to a touchdown?
” Amat will get their butts kicked in league and 1 and out in the playoffs” Amat just beat Chaminade, who was supposed to be their toughest competition in league, that doesn’t mean they will go undefeated the rest of the way cause they are in a league where any team can beat any other team on a given night, but they are looking pretty good this year.
I am not an Amat fan but I like Amat and respect that they compete, and win games fairly consistently at the highest division level, which no other team on this message board could do including Cathedral.
Just own up to your teams loss, they were beat by a much better team.

Salty against Amat much? Tbh you have some of the worst coaches and unfortunately the players mimic the coaches behavior. There were pleantly of penalties at the game and your team deserved almost all of them. On another note your team team plays most of their varsity kids on Thursday as well. Numbers are drastically down at Cathedral.

Those silver jerseys are ugly arroyo gots they’re uniforms always look good cause those nice white helmets. MV had those nice black ones and El Monte has those new greys. Rest of the MVL units pretty weak. Actually South ain’t bad with the wings.

To Annonymous Idiot. I am not a Cathedral guy but I was at the game. Cathedral lost to serra by 2 points. Nobody is crying other than you . If you have something to say to Angelus Fan than tell him to his face. I don’t know what Annonymous you are but you are always saying some crap about other schools and especially Cathedral.

Always a given cathedral people can never own a loss. It’s always 1 or 2 bad plays, It’s the refs fault, the goal post where not the high school specs. That’s why you have no respect on this blog. Now that they got a down La Miranda team here they come with their chest all pumped up. What happened last week against Serra. You guys where pretty quiet. Let me guess something in that game didn’t play to you favor and have an excuse for that game to. Bunch of chumps, especially AngelusFan. The excuses make you sound like a bunch of whinny females

The Phantoms were moving on Amat all night. The phantoms had two miscues that gave Amat 14 points. That’s the difference in the game vs Cathedral. If the Phantoms recover the onside kick, they go in and score. It would have been a different game. Also, The Ref’s were horrible giving Cathedral 195 yards on penalties vs Amat with 95. Amat will get their butts kicked in league and 1 and out in playoffs.

nooooooo, Arroyo definitely does have the best unis in the sgv.
Whenever their AD/HC stops being cheap, and gets some NIKE, Under Armour, or ADIDAS maybe then they will.

The time for Phantom fans to crow about how they’re going to shock the world is over, courtesy of the Amat Lancers. Everybody knows that present-day La Mirada is CRAP, which means that a win over those guys smells the same way. Is THAT what you’re getting so lathered about?

If Cathedral does not roll over La Mirada by at least 5 touchdown then I would question how good the Phantoms really are. La Mirada is a shell of the team they were several years ago. Let that be a cautionary tale for schools out there looking to build their football program, A school administration can destroy a program faster than you know.

Nice to see that the writers at MVS understand, like most knowledgeable fans, that league play is the real thing, not the practice games of preseason. Hence the selection of Schurr as the winner versus Alhambra, a game that commands attention only to the extent of exposing the Moors’ unbeaten record as fraudulent.

I believe La Serna will handle California by 4 touchdowns. A far more compelling match up is Whittier 5-1-El Rancho 4-2. I described this game as a must win for both teams several weeks ago. A win probably assures the victor a play off spot in their respective divisions and a loss a steep uphill battle to gain one. I predicted El Rancho’s 3 weeks off basically leading up to this game suggests they do not bring in battle tested troops. Whittier is a formidable team playing some of their best football in awhile.. Both have experienced HC’s with great staffs. This one played at Cal Hi I’d say Whittier by a touchdown. But it is being played at Don Stadium. Toss-up.

No way Schurr beats us. I am glad that we did not get that guy Elias looks like he can only coach when he has stars. So they can not score and their defense is horrible. They could not stop someone if they told them what play they were doing. Look for us to put the game away by the 4th quarter and get ready for Montebello.
