1. Kansas hires Les Miles as its new head football coach. Miles signed a five-year deal that could pay him as much as $15.125 million.

2. Colorado fired head coach Mike MacIntyre after the Buffaloes lost their sixth straight game. MacIntyre was in his sixth season as head coach.

3. Washington Redskins quarterback Alex Smith broke his right leg Sunday in a 23-21 loss to Houston and is out for the season. The Redskins signed Mark Sanchez to backup Colt McCoy who is now the starter.

4. LeBron James scored 51 points Sunday in the Lakers 113-97 win over the Miami Heat.

5. Kaiser at Arcadia, Friday night, 7:00 p.m. CIF Division 8 Final.

6. Damien head football coach Mark Paredes has stepped down after six seasons at the helm.

7. USC, at 5-6, is still not bowl eligible after a 34-27 loss to UCLA Saturday. The Trojans face Notre Dame this Saturday at the Coliseum.

8. Kansas City Chiefs at Rams, Monday Night, 5:15 p.m., LA Coliseum.

9. On this date in 1984 New York Mets pitcher Dwight Gooden, at 20, became the youngest pitcher to be named Rookie of the Year in the National League.

10. Also on this date in 1951 Dodger catcher Roy Campanella was named NL Rookie of the Year on his 30th birthday.

    If the Trojans lose to Notre Dame, I suggest the university honor the spot where Pat Haden axed Lane Kiffin by using that exact patch of tarmac to announce Helton’s termination. It would show that at even at a rich man’s school, some things are still sacred. Fire On!
