1. Texas beat Georgia 28-21 in the Allstate Sugar Bowl.

2. LSU beat previously unbeaten UCF 40-32 in the PlayStation Fiesta Bowl.

3. In Urban Meyer’s last game as head coach Ohio State beat Washington 28-23 in the Rose Bowl in Pasadena.

4. Former South El Monte standout Diana Payan (class of 2008) has been named the head softball coach at Cal State San Bernardino.

5. NFL Playoffs: NFC- Philadelphia at Chicago, Seattle at Dallas. Byes- New Orleans, Los Angeles. AFC- Indianapolis at Houston, Los Angeles at Baltimore. Byes- Kansas City, New England.

6. The New York Yankees have agreed to a deal to sign veteran free-agent shortstop Troy Tulowitzki.

7. Houston Rockets guard James Harden has scored 40 or more points in four consecutive games.

8. The Angels signed veteran catcher Jonathan Lucroy to a one-year, $3.35 million deal.

9. Longtime NFL Network draft analyst Mike Mayock has been named the General Manager of the Oakland Raiders.

10. On this day in 1984 Rick Neuheisel threw for 298 yards and four touchdowns to lead UCLA to a 45-9 win over Illinois in the Rose Bowl.

    It’s crazy but true that today’s Houston Rockets, with James Harden at the controls, is the kind of exciting act that used to run up and down the court in Laker land. Funny too that their coach, Mike D’Antoni, was run out of town for being not in sync with the kind of ball the Busses wanted to play!
