@ Really….look who’s didn’t know everything. In 96 El Monte beat Arroyo in the quarters to get to the semis. In 97 El Monte beat Mt View in the quarters to make the semis. They had back to back semi appearances but no league titles. I believe Mt View had a semis run in 94 or 95. Im not 100% about that one. When they were a 6 team league they sent 3 teams, not 2. So my original comment was correct. The MVL has never had 4 teams in the 2nd round since Marshall joined 5 years ago. But like I said I can’t remember a time when all 3 MVL reps made it to the second round in baseball.
Furthermore has it right. The playoffs are a bit watered down in baseball. I’m good with most of it. I just think there should be 6 divisions. It’s great that more teams make the playoffs but I feel 6 divisions will make it more competitive all around.
The last time Mt View beat Arroyo was in 1980. 50-0. If my small brain, other side math is correct that’s 39 years. Not 47.

CIF’s approach to declining attendance has been to water-down the quality of postseason play. The hope is that, with a few parents and friends wandering in to see the tough battles in division 58, they’ll recover the money they used to make in the real playoffs. They’re not fooling anybody, and the cash box is not flowing over.

Sometimes people Anonymously talk through or write through the other side of their little brain without making any sense or understanding of competition. 1st point, MVL has only had 7 teams for about 5-6 years when Marshal was added. The newer format allows more teams in more divisions to make the playoffs. Back in the 90’s I believe El Monte had a semi-final run and Mt. View was a quarter finalist. I think only 2 teams made it to the playoffs. Look at the football divisions. D-1 and D-2 only have 18 teams in those divisions. 16 teams make the playoffs. Does that change the competition? No, It creates more competition striving to get better within the quality of players from that lower division. If you win you will go up, and up. I heard that CIF was finally meeting on new leagues for only football. At last a Great Idea! Make to leagues more competitive so the schools will have more students and parents at the games. In the last 47 years Arroyo has only lost to Mt. View 1 time. Now, they have 0ver 2400 students Mt. View has 1400. CIF ‘s job is to create a student athletic environment with competition. Arroyo- El Monte-Rosemead should play in a more competitive league. Place Arroyo, El Monte, Rosemead, SEM and add Schur, Montebello, Bell Gardens in one league. All will be in Division 10-8. Then put Alhambra, South Pasadena, Glendale, La Canada, Pasadena. Then In the lower league: San Gabriel, Keppel, Gabrielino, Hoover, Mtn View, Bassett, Workman. Hopefully the decide to make a competitive changes.

Look at the MVL! I dare say they’ve never had 4 teams in the 2nd round of playoffs. Or probably even 3 teams in the second round of playoffs. If you ask me, D7 should be eliminated. It’ll make D1-D6 better and a CIF title in D4-D6 will mean more. It also cuts out those incredibly under qualified teams from making playoffs. Quality not quantity CIF!
