Bond Takes the Helm at APU

By Tim Peterson

(Glendora) – Peter Bond, a former Azusa Pacific player and an 11-year assistant, has been named the new head basketball coach at APU. Bond replaced Justin Leslie who stepped down last week to take over as head coach at Midwestern State in Texas.

Bond becomes the sixth head coach in program history.

Bond has contributed to every aspect of the program, including recruiting, player development, travel, fundraising and scouting. He also directs five high school team camps and two youth camps hosted by Azusa Pacific during the summer.

In addition to his coaching role, Bond also served the past seven years as Azusa Pacific’s director of athletic development, helping lead the department’s fundraising and marketing efforts.

Now he get the opportunity to run the program. Bond was introduced at a Press Conference Thursday at Felix Event Center.

With these qualifications, we can see that hiring anyone except Bond would be crazy. Same thing goes for the Lakers and Tyrone Lue. Perhaps the APU people can phone Jeannie Buss and tell her to stop wasting time by pretending to make an exhaustive search. The team bet the farm on Lebron, so now he’s calling the shots and he wants shorty.
