Alhambra's Jonathan Beltran fired a complete game victory
(Alhambra) – Jonathan Beltran fired a complete game to lead Alhambra to a 2-1 win over Montebello Friday at Moor Field in the regular season finale.
Beltran held the Oilers to six hits and fanned six. He allowed only a run in the fifth. The Moors picked up one in the second and another one in the fourth and then held on.
Alhambra finished the season 14-1 in league to win the Almont title and went 22-4 overall. The Moors beat the Oilers twice in the last week and won their last eight games of the season to wrap it up. For Alhambra, it was its sixth consecutive league title.
Beltran was the Moors ace all year going 10-1 with a 1.60 ERA. Greg Saldate was the second link in a well armed staff with a 6-1 record and 1.49 ERA.
The Moors got a run in the second when Alex Castillo walked and Juan Morales doubled him home. In the fourth, Isaiah Marin singled , took second on a ground ball by Juan Crespo and scored on a double by Frankie Wright.
The Oliers got their only run in the fifth when Daniel Lopez doubled, advanced to third on an errant pick off throw and scored on a single by Silvestre Sanchez.
In the seventh Montebllo had two on and one out after two walks, but Beltran worked his way out of the jam with a strikeout and a pop up to end it.
Jose Matos took the loss for Montebello and dropped to 2-2. The Oilers finished 10-5 in the Almont and 14-10 overall. With a third place finish in league a playoff appearance is next for Montebello.
The Moors got huge contributions offensively this season from Crespo who hit .368 and drove in 20 runs and Vai Peko (.300, 15 RBI). Wright also hit .350 with 23 runs batted in.
Alhambra will start the playoffs next Friday at Moor Field. The Moors will find out their opponent Sunday when the CIF pairings are announced.
