Johnson Jr. wins Second in a Row

(Irwindale) – On Armed Forces Day at Toyota Speedway at Irwindale an estimated crowd of 2,300 fans saw an all half-mile show and the exciting Pick Your Part Outlaw Figure-8’s and Demolition Derby.

KING TACO SUPER TRUCKS TROPHY DASH – 4 Laps

Kenny Smith took the lead on the second lap of four to win the Trophy Dash to start the evening’s proceedings. Scott Corrigan had the lead early before getting passed by Smith.  Corrigan finished second. The trophy dash was for the four slowest drivers in the King Taco Super Trucks.

VISTA PAINT SUPER STOCKS – 30 Laps

Rich DeLong III knew the only way that Bryan Harrell would beat him would be on the high-side in the turns.

For the last 10 laps, DeLong managed to keep Harrell at bay by driving the middle groove and not allowing him to pass up high.

Harrell had one opportunity to take the lead on lap 27 when DeLong had to avoid Larry Sampson on the straight away.  Harrell went to the top and was unable to get clear as Sampson drifted into the groove that Harrell had chosen and was stopped.

It allowed DeLong to clear Harrell and take his fourth victory of the season and extend his Vista Paint Super Stocks lead by two.

KING TACO SUPER TRUCKS – 40 Laps

Ryan Partridge survived two late re-starts to win his fourth straight King Taco Super Truck event.

Partridge led all but the first three laps of the race as he passed Todd Cameron on the third lap.

It looked as though Cameron was going to get the last jump on Partridge on the final re-start on lap 38 as he seemed to have position heading into turn two.  Cameron was unable to get any forward bite coming out of turn two and Partridge was able to get in front.

After Partridge got clear, he must have loved what he saw as Cameron and Pat Mintey Jr battled for the second spot, which Cameron won and recorded his fourth top-three finish.

For Partridge he now has a 12 point lead on Cameron.

AUTO CLUB LATE MODEL – 50 Laps

Rod Johnson Jr won his second-straight Main Event win in the Auto Club Late Model and extended his points lead by 22 points when Travis Irving finished 12th and now is behind by 28 points.

Johnson was able to take advantage of a lap 15 re-start and overtook Toyota Speedway at Irwindale track Champion Nick Joanides in the middle of turn one.

Joanides was unable to get back in the lead as Johnson continued to overpower his rivals the final 35 laps.

The race saw a caution thrown on lap 22 that saw Christian Copley turn Brandon Davis in turn four and collected Joey Licata.  Johnson was leading at the time of the incident and saw one last re-start against Joanides.

Johnson chose the outside line against the veteran Joanides and was able to hold him off as a loose clutch cost Joanides in the turns.

Chris Holloway continued his strong year with a very good third place finish being able to hold off Mike Johnson.

PICK YOUR PART OUTLAW FIGURE 8’S – 20 Laps

Steve Stewart led all the way to take the final race of the evening.

Series leader Billy Ziemann chased Stewart all the way for 20 laps but could never get past him.  It was an all green flag race.
