Crescenta Valley Stays Perfect, 42-19

By Rich Whittington

(Burbank)The Crescenta Valley Falcons continued their quest for a perfect season Friday evening, as they routed the host John Burroughs Indians, 42-19, in front of a good crowd at Burbank’s Memorial Stadium.

CV (5-0, 2-0 in Pacific League Play) jumped out to an early lead, and never looked back. Quarterback Chase Center opened the scoring, running for a 15 yard score. This would prove to be a big night for Center, who would add another TD run, and threw for 102 yards, including a pair of touchdown completions to receiver Colby Rees. Another major contributor to the CV success story was Maximus Grant, who ran for 148 yards, including scoring sprints of 30 and 85 yards. The remainder of the evening’s scoring was provided by
Anthony Sharlakian, who successfully converted all six of his PAT attempts.

Burroughs got on the board on the first possession of the games second half, as quarterback Nicholas Garcia connected with receiver Aiden Forrester for a 7 yard score. Garcia added the PAT, making the score 21-7. Garcia added two more TD tosses, one to Carson Cardenaz and another to Forrester. Garcia finished the even with 17 completions for 223 yards, including the 3 touchdown completions mentioned above.

Defensively, Crescenta Valley played a gritty, stubborn brand of football. The Falcons managed to apply enough pressure to control an offense which, until tonight, had averaged 46.6 points per game. Angel Ochoa intercepted an errant Nicholas Garcia pass, killing a Burroughs drive, and contributing to the CV victory. Additionally, the Falcons recorded two QB sacks. The first, for a 6 yard loss, was provided by PJ Weinmann. The second sack, for a 16 yard loss, was added by DL Logan Tourville.

Next week, the Falcons will host the Burbank High School Bulldogs. The game will be played at Glendale High School. Burroughs will also be at home, hosting the John Muir Mustangs. Kickoff for both of these contests is 7:00PM
