By Rich Whittington

(South El Monte) – The El Monte Lions continued their “Run to Perfection” Thursday evening, as they torched the host South El Monte Eagles, 45-14, in front of a partisan El Monte crowd at South El Monte High School.

El Monte ran their way to a perfect 10-0 record. The Lions were led by Davon Booth who carried the ball 10 times for 185 yards, including scoring jaunts of 14, 40, and 75 yards.

Booth also converted two 2-Point PAT attempts. Also having a big night for the Lions was Abel Cueva, who rushed the ball 10 times for 147 yards, including scores of 40
and 62 yards, and JJ Reyes, who accounted for 41 yards and a touchdown.

South El Monte managed to find the endzone on two occasions. The Eagles’ first score was provided by Ryan Gordiano, who scored on a 13-yard TD run. SEM added
another touchdown late in the contest, when Mario Zamundio connected with Max Jimenez for an 8-yard score.

The Lions (10-0, 5-0 in Mission Valley league play) advance to the CIF Division 12 playoffs. Their opponent, game time, and location are to be determined. The Eagles finish their season with a record of 4-6, 2-3 in the Mission Valley League.

    Ok Wannabe Noam
This statement encapsulates 99.9% of all football teams. Limited practice time two way players most teams have 1 or two studs then it’s team guys after that. Kaiser rolled through D8 on the back of 3200 yard rusher to get their rings. EM has an ace and they should ride that ace til they can’t anymore.

Partisan crowd at an away game, is that nice way of saying ELMO dominated the stands too? Lmfao. I told everyone when Gallardo cut ties with one of the best coaches in the area SEM would not recover under his reign. Gallardo not even trying to win is an all time low for him. Did someone remind him that playoff berths were on the line? Bottom line SEM will be in the dumps where they belong. ELMO only has one out of area kid my @$$! Did you forget the Three linemen and Lb? The stars are aligned for ELMO in the famous words of snoop dogg don’t choke!

If it was only one kid maybe but EM has 4 kids that came don’t belong. Shame on em to try and beat up the MVL with other schools talent. Karma will be here very quick. Em will lose in the 2nd round.

@Anonymous….Amen all year was the same excuse from mostly Arroyo people. We are talking about 1 out of the area kid who has dominated them. The rest of El Monte lions roster is boys born and raised in El Monte but mostly Arroyo people keep whining about transfer Express. Early in the season they said Montoya an Reyes where not that good and wouldn’t make a difference I beg to differ. Coach C not only upgraded the defence, now has 2 quality RBs to help when Booth or Cuevas need a break. Good luck in CIF El Monte represent our city well

Congratulations El Monte. The lions Roll to 10-0 and back to back MVL champions. Devon Booth sliced and diced the Eagle defense all night. EM can sit back and prep for a deep run. I had Booth at 192 yards and Cuevas at 136 yards. Gordiano for SEM at 84 yards rushing. The only surprise in this game was SEMs seemingly uninterested in winning. They actually sat on the clock down 32-7. Frank Gallardo and his Troops went out with a whimper and not a fight. At no fault to the kids this was a coaches choice. Very bad optics for SEM. Worse off is that SEM actually had playoff hopes riding on this game. All bad in my opinion. But EM has all the tools to bring a championship back to EM. Good luck lions.

This is how important this game was to SEM, No band, no student section and apparently it was a white out game and no one was wearing white for SEM. Second half rolls around down 35-7, instead of trying to get back in the game, fighting for their playoffs lives they choose to wave the white flag and stay in the slow down taking their time. Gutless football! Didn’t even try to get back in the game. Coaches should be ashamed of that game plan. SEM had everything to gain nothing to lose. What if they tried to get back in the game and they lose 45-28 or 55-35 hell even 60-35 at least it would’ve given your seniors a chance to play their last game giving it their all. Those players deserved a shot to go out on their shield not to just give up because the coach wanted to keep the lions from scoring. gutless football. Lets get a coach with some JUEVOS! let the chickens stay home.

Hey, my only worry is that a team that wins by running the same play using the same player, and winning games in this manner, might fail to realize they play junk teams. Therefore, my worry is that they, their supporters, and community might not start to think said-team is actually good at football. This happens quite often. *Sigh*

Honestly, one kid is good. But, it takes a whole team to be great. A kid cant run around without the OL blocking, or a team defense to stop people. Anyone that complained about one kid is ridiculously jealous because of the success of that team. Man up and admit that your team suck this year, stop crying and stop looking over at other team success. It takes a group of hard working young men to win this game. GIVE them all the credits for winning. Congrats to EM coaches and players.

I read these blogs all the time and never have a reason to post a message till now. I dont get some people that complain about a team whom runs the same plays over and over again with 1 player that’s not from the area and week afther week people get on here to talking smack because of that one player. No wonder they post Anonymous If my team couldn’t stop ONE player running the same plays I would be embarrassed to if I was you. STOP with the excuses and get better

@Anonymous I thinks MVL teams especially Arroyo should be thinking to themselves, Man how can we get better so we wont have to be crying next year when one kid dominates us. Or should we start looking for that one kid to help us win then we wont have to be crying next year. Stop making excuses for your down years stop blaming a team with ONE kid who’s not from the area

The Transfer Express rolled to a 10-0 season. Good for the kiddos. Let’s see who they can bring in next year to continue the MVL dominance. Or will C find greener pastures? Will Arroyo up their game or will Jim pack it up? He definitely will not play second fiddle to EM. He would rather retire than coach no talent. Let’s see what EM has in the playoffs. They are definitely the favorite but is there a dark horse out there patiently waiting? Time will tell.
