TCASA Titans have won two consecutive league titles

(Temple City) – It was Déjà vu at Live Oak Park in Temple City TCASA softball. For the second straight year the TCASA Titans won the championship in the 12 year old and under girls’ league. The Titans had to beat the TC Huskies twice in the last week to win the title for the second consecutive year.

The Titans knocked off the Huskies 14-5 on Monday night followed by an 8-5 victory on Tuesday to win the best of three series.

“I’m really proud of these girls,” said Titans manager Bill Dwyer. “They worked hard all year.”

In the title clinching win, Bailee Weisz, Nicole Shabow, Marianna Politis and Jessica Alvarado all scored in the first inning to get the Titans started. Later in the contest Shabow and Politis scored again and Vanessa Dwyer, and Kaitlyn Gibson also crossed the plate.

Key RBIs by Politis, Shabow and Hofstad sparked the victory along with aggressive base running by Audrey Enriquez. Alexa Smith laid down a textbook bunt and Hannah Miller came up big at the plate to help fuel the Titans.

Dwyer, who also pitched on Monday night, started again on Tuesday and worked into the third inning. She came up with the big plays when she needed to but her shoulder began to bother her and she also bruised a finger. Gibson came on in the fourth and gave the team a huge lift by retiring the side in order.

“Kaitlyn had a great game. To come in and get those three outs for us was big,” Dwyer said. “She pitched real well.”

Bill Dwyer had plenty of praise for his new players. “Jessica, Summer, Alexa and Hannah, all first year players, really stepped up their play to help us win the championship. They could have been intimidated by coming on to a team that won last year but they weren’t at all,” he said.

The Titans had to fight hard all year long to hold off the Huskies even down to the final game. “I have the utmost respect for Manager Mike Wintercorn and the Huskies. They are a great group of girls and they played hard and with a lot of heart. I can never let my guard down against those girls,” Dwyer added.

The Titans finished 16-9-1 in the regular season and 2-0 in the playoffs.

TCASA Titans: Jessica Alvarado, Vanessa Dwyer, Audrey Enriquez, Alexis Estrada, Kaitlyn Gibson, Jamie Hammon, Summer Hofstad, Hannah Miller, Marianna Politis, Nicole Shabow, Alexa Smith, Bailee Weisz.
