1. Georgia quarterback Jake Fromm will skip his senior year and declare for the NFL draft.

2. San Diego State head coach Rocky Long stepped down and will be replaced by defensive line coach Brady Hoke. Long replaced Hoke as the Aztecs HC nine years ago when Hoke took the head coach job at Michigan.

3. Mike Leach leaves Washington State to take over as the head coach at Mississippi State.

4. NFC Divisional Playoffs: Minnesota at San Francisco; Seattle at Green Bay. AFC Divisional Playoffs: Tennessee at Baltimore; Houston at Kansas City.

5. Pasadena Poly will join the Rio Hondo League for football only beginning this season.

6. UCLA receiver Theo Howard announced he is transferring to Oklahoma.

7. Rams special teams coordinator John “Bones” Fassell won’t be back with the team next year and is expected to join the Dallas Cowboys staff in the same position.

8. On this date in 1982 the San Francisco 49ers beat the Dallas Cowboys 28-27 in the NFC Championship game. The game will forever be remembered for “The Catch” as Joe Montana hit Dwight Clark for the game winner with 58 seconds left. Vin Scully called the game on CBS.

9. Former heavyweight boxing champion George Foreman turns 71 today.

10. “I’m working for the Lord, and even though the Lord’s pay isn’t very high, his retirement program is.” – George Foreman.

    With UCLA leaking talent like a sieve, and USC not being able to get any in the first place, donor money from both universities is now pouring into Pioneer High.
