Soto Steps Down at Bassett

By Tim Peterson

Martin Soto has stepped down as the head football coach at Bassett after two years he announced Monday.

Soto was 6-13 overall and 3-5 in the Miramonte League. Soto wrote a letter to his players that said in part:

“It was difficult writing this letter. However, I must inform you that I will no longer be coaching at Bassett High School. Although I will no longer be your coach I will always love and respect you all. I will miss all the players past and present deeply. Thank you for all the memories and great times.”

Bassett will begin the search for new head coach immediately.

Well my name is Marissa Gomez
A parent of bassett high school. Myself and a group of parents supported this coach thinking he was in it for the best intrest of the kids. Well Mr. Soto been MIA with his whole team no practices no support during this time he applied early this year and new all along he was leaving to la puente yet decided to be selfish and quit as of last Monday. Why not quit before why not tell his players personally and not inform them on an Instagram post. He is now trying to recruit players to la.puente can he be any worst??

There are a handful of coaches that have left though did not feel the need to officially resign because they are walk-ons. With high school sports in Ca. on the bench until 2022 at the earliest these guys can’t just hang around. Americans so far have proven themselves to selfish and stupid to mask up and keep some distance.
