  1. The St. Louis Cardinals are finalizing a deal to acquire third baseman Nolan Arenado from the Colorado Rockies. 
  2. Former Temple basketball coach/ Hall of Famer John Chaney passed away at the age of 89. 
  3. The Rams will inherit the two years, $43 million on Matthew Stafford’s contract and the Lions will take over the four years, $106.6 million on Jared Goff’s contract. 
  4. The Green Bay Packers fired DC Mike Pettine. 
  5. Anthony Davis scored 27 points to lead the Lakers to a 96-95 win over the Boston Celtics Saturday night. 
  6. The Philadelphia Phillies signed shortstop Didi Gregorious to a two-year, $28 million deal. 
  7. After a 57-52 win over Oregon State Saturday night UCLA is 9-1 in the Pac 12 Conference and 13-3 overall. 
  8. On this day in 2009 the Pittsburgh Steelers beat the Arizona Cardinals 27-23 in Super Bowl XLIII. Steeler receiver Santonio Holmes was named MVP. 
  9. Kansas City is currently a 3 point favorite over Tampa Bay in Super Bowl LV Sunday in Tampa Bay, Florida.

    @ #3: That helps explain why the Rams also forked over two first-round draft choices and a third-rounder to get Stafford. The other reason, as Tim said, is that Stafford is a better quarterback.
    You typically have to pay more for higher quality.
    I’ll predict right now that the Rams will keep John Wolford as a backup QB. I think he’s earned the role with his performances in two crucial late-season games.
    Will they keep Blake Bortles as a third-stringer? Maybe, maybe not…
