The reason I included baseball in the category which requires no physical fitness is that the ball is in play no more than five minutes during the hours-long session. Thus, any great show of athleticism is limited to that five-minute span. Compare this to football and basketball, where the ball is in play for 48 and 32 minutes respectively. The challenge for baseball players to to stay limber, and the challenge for baseball fans is to stay awake.

Baseball and football are very similar. A few true athletes on each team and everyone else specialized.
Your football skill guys are your baseball outfielders and middle infielders.
Your linemen and linebackers are your catchers and corner infielders. Your qbs are your pitchers.

Interesting take Mr. Question. Quite frankly, your stance on this query does carry some validity. In other words, I agree with most of your premise. However, categorizing Baseball as a “non-sport” takes it too far. On many occasions throughout a baseball game, extreme athleticism, acrobatics, skills, and speed are demanded and showcased. I assume you were never introduced to baseball?

Golf, Nascar, Bowling, Billiards, Poker, etc., I can’t defend these “competitions/activites” as when someone is attempting to qualify them as “sports.”

Are the sports which don’t require physical fitness (baseball, golf, billiards and bowling) really sports? Not to deny Mickelson’s accomplishment (I’m a golfer myself), but when you’re able to be the best in your area of expertise at age 50, that’s a dead giveaway that you’re involved in something that emphasizes motor skills, exclusive of any great act of endurance. If sport is defined as anything that includes physical motion, I suppose chess and dart-throwing need to form leagues.
