Lopez to Lead Gladstone

By Tim Peterson

(Covina) – Phil Lopez, who served as interim coach earlier this year, was named the head football coach at Gladstone the school announced Friday.

Lopez took over for Ted Clarke who resigned in March before the Spring season began. The Gladiators only played two games in the Spring season and won both beating Workman 14-6 and Azusa 22-8.

Lopez, who has been on the Gladstone staff for the last four years, is looking forward to the opportunity.

“I’m beyond excited and I’m confident in what we’ve been building. We’ve got a talented young team with a lot of guys returning,” Lopez said. “We just have to replace a couple of linemen but I’m sure we’ll be able to fill those spots and pick up where we left off this past season.”
