Falcons Stay Perfect in Pacific

(Arcadia) – Crescenta Valley opened up a big lead in the third quarter and then had to hang on in the fourth for a 64-60 win over Arcadia Friday night in Pacific League action at Arcadia.

The Falcons led by 15 at 53-38 late in the third quarter and it looked like they were ready to put the Apaches away. But Arcadia found a way to fight back in it in the fourth and cut the lead to 61-60 on a three pointer by Shant Chenorhavorian with 38 seconds left.

But that was the last time the Apaches scored as Allen Boghossian knocked down two key free throws for Crescenta Valley down the stretch and CV held on for the four-point victory.

Arcadia was playing catch up all night and was never able to get over the hump. Early in the game Arcadia fell behind 16-6 and still found themselves down 16-10 after one. But late in the first quarter and into the second the Apaches went on a 13-0 run to go up 19-16.

Chenorhavorian had five points in the second quarter and Tim Kwon had a pair of buckets to get Arcadia back in it. Gavin Shaghoian scored 10 of the Falcons 17 points in the second quarter as CV regained the lead to take a 33-30 advantage into the half.

The Falcons then opened it up in the third as Shaghoian hit two threes and had 10 more points in the quarter and Boghossian hit two from beyond the arc as well. Crescenta Valley outscored Arcadia 20-10 in the third to lead 53-40 heading into the fourth.

Arcadia then roared back behind Chenorhavorian and Jason Gerald who hit a couple of big buckets as well. The Apaches came close but ultimately fell short.

For the Falcons Shaghoian led all scorers with 25 points including four three pointers. Boghossian had 14 and Ryan Raad finished with 11 including a couple of jams.

For Arcadia Chenorhavorian led the way with 18 and Jonathan Maldonaldo got loose for two rim rattling dunks and did some damage in the paint for 12 points. Gerald had 8 and Kwon added 7.

With the win the Falcons wrapped up the Pacific League with a perfect 6-0 record and improved to 15-3 overall. Arcadia fell to 13-7 and 5-2 in league.
