(Arcadia) – Ian Hoffstetter threw five shutout innings and the bats did the rest as Arcadia rolled over Burbank 10-0 Tuesday. The game was stopped in the fifth inning due to the mercy rule.

The Apaches picked up a run in the first inning when Alex Dolan led off with a double, took third on a wild pitch and scored a ground ball to short by Lance Wong.

If there is a turning point in a 10-0 game it came in the top of the second inning. Burbank loaded the bases as Ben Baptiste singled and Daniel Neria was hit by a pitch. Another single loaded the bases with one out but Hoffstetter wriggled off the hook on a fielder’s choice and a strikeout of Wyatt Lamarsna to end the inning.

“Hoffstetter was great as usual. The was big to get out of that inning,” said Arcadia Coach Nick Lemas.

Alex Dolan had hits and scored twice to spark the Apaches.

Arcadia added another in the bottom of the second on consecutive singles by Evan Huang, Jack Esguerra and Dolan. The Apaches made it 4-0 in the fourth. Zach Huerta beat out an infield hit and when Huang laid down a bunt the ball was thrown wildly past first and Huerta came all the way around to score. Esguerra singled to plate Huang.

Arcadia ended it with six in the fifth. Danny Chavez led off with a base hit and Devin Eskridge bunted for a hit. After Jose Avellaneda came on in relief Julian Gutierrez was hit by a pitch. Both Chavez and Eskridge scored on wild pitches and Huerta’s single got Gutierrez home. Dolan reached on a fielder’s choice, Wong singled in two and Ari Nurhadi landed the knockout blow with a double to left. Arcadia had 13 hits in all.

Hoffstetter allowed just three hits in five innings of work and struck out five with no walks.

With the win Arcadia is in first place in the Pacific League with a record of 8-1. The Apaches are 16-5 overall. Burbank fell to 7-2 and 12-6. Arcadia will travel to Burbank to play the Bulldogs again on Friday.

“Friday is going to be huge. They’ll have their horse on the mound so we need to be ready. We can’t worry about everybody else, we just need to take care of business,” Lemas said.
