    SF wasn’t taking kids from the Whittier area, they were digging into Downey, Norwalk, Compton area, they won 5 straight league titles but it never felt like SF was an all star team they just had a handful of standouts every year, Taminich, Jackson, Pellum, Gardley, Cleaveland, Kimbrough, teams in the DRL kept it competitive every year because the district wasn’t aiding SF, the way they are aiding LS.

    People said the same thing about the Chiefs back then, people just didn’t have Social Media or these types of forums to amplify those statements

    Victim? I’m not playing a victim, just stating facts. It’s not the right thing to have La Serna, La Habra, and Monrovia in leagues where they are far and above superior to everyone else. Doesn’t make sense. It’s the same way with LB Poly in the Moore League. The Big VIII found a way to mix it up after years of Centennial dominance so there can be some more competitive games. The newly found Gateway league is doing it as are several others. But not the Del Rio, Freeway, Rio Hondo, or Moore Leagues. It does a disservice to the ones on top and to the ones at the bottom.

    What I am saying is that now more than ever, it is important for leagues to be equitable. Having 1 team in Division 3 and all others in division 10 and below kind of ruins the system that is being created. I went back and looked. Santa Fe wasn’t beating big power house teams back during their run. They were even losing to teams like Schurr and Alhambra. La Serna, La Habra, and Monrovia. should be proud of their work. They should be celebrated for their work. They should get more recognition for their work. But they should not be the neighborhood bully either. I credit those teams for stepping up their non-league schedule.

    The “everyone gets a trophy” argument is tired and is only used by the ones in a situation where they keep getting the trophy. If you don’t want to live in the “everyone gets a trophy” generation then find a way to step into a more competitive league. Those teams literally have to just show up to win their league.

    Love how no one cried when Santa Fe was top dawg in the Whittier Area in the early 2000s but when LS is now everyone wants to boot them out.

    Cry harder guys. Make up whatever all-star takes you want but the fact remains that LS is doing it right with undersized kids against bigger and better programs in non-league games and in the playoffs.

    It’s easy to win when you’re an all star team composed of all the top talent from Whittier, parts of la habra, La mirada, Santa Fe springs, Norwalk and throw in bits of pico rivera and hacienda heights, to top it all off you don’t even need to borrow an adress, LS will allow you right in with their open enrollment application period, easy peasy.

    Blame the WUHSD: Some superintendent likes to favor La Serna. He/she allows La Serna to pick and choose what athletes they want as incoming students. They always have room for football stars. Meanwhile Whittier, Cal. Pioneer and Santa Fe limp along fielding teams that are 3rd tier because all the good players in their attendance area have been poached by La Serna. Pioneer got out but too late. Their program is dead even with the biggest stadium around. Santa Fe and Whittier are heading in the same direction. La Serna folks are fine with the status quo. They are absolutely guaranteed a playof spot every year by just showing up. LS does not have the class to step up and compete for a playoff spot. They just beat a team that plays in one of the toughest leagues in the US. But they prefer to play Whittier almost 100 points in rating difference for a league championship? Cmon now. And yet they cry about being neglected. Time for the School Board to step up because the district won’t.

    @Dude,

    I agree with Anonymous. They put up over 400 yards against Monrovia. I’m not even sure Ayala did that. But you make a good point, El Rancho is a D10 team and La Serna is a D3 or D2 team. Why doesn’t La Serna move onto a league that it is more comparable with them? The other surrounding districts have seemed to figure this out, but not the Whittier area districts. It’s easy to schedule “step up” games when you’re in a league that you’ve outgrown. Do you guys like being the neighborhood bully?

    @Anonymous,

    While you make a good point about not pandering about everyone getting a trophy. You have to think about schools like La Serna, La Habra, and Monrovia. They want to stay in their leagues because they want that trophy. CIF has made it clear they want equity and there isn’t much equity in the current model for some of these leagues. All you have to do is take one look at Monrovia and one look at Temple City and you know they don’t belong on the same field. Sure, Temple City can get better, but the opportunity to get better doesn’t present itself when they have to play Monrovia. And the Del Rio League doesn’t even make sense geographically. La Serna is at minimum a 20-25 minute drive from Santa Fe and/or El Rancho.

    @Dude,
    Not an ER fan here, but that “booty backyard offense” averages over 30 points a game and had over 400 yards against Monrovia. And it’s been producing those kind of results for years.

    LS don’t scare anyone … believe that.
    Leave our league alone, if anything bring one more team to our league so we can get 3 automatic bids for playoff

    I would love to get a league like the new gateway style ! Each league will be competitive…. Leave LS bring La Habra but they won’t want to lose Orange County coverage

    Stop crying and get better.

    @Anon: Boy you are just wrong.. Just before Covid El Rancho played Garfield at Garfield in one of the best game never talked about. ER won 36-35 scoring in the last seconds on a pass play before a packed out Garfield stadium. The sportsmanship shown by Garfield considering they just lost a heartbreaker at home was beautiful as were the Gaarfield fans. The Almont is willing to schedule Garfield, Franklin and Wilson and the results are lop-sided in favor of City. In fact other than Del Rio’s El Rancho the Almont has never beated Garfield. It is to bad those teams are not scheduled more often. I would love to see a Roosevelt El Rancho game as well. They are an easy drive.
