(Covina) The Northview Vikings hosted the Covina Colts in the annual Crosstown Crown game Friday night with the Vikings running wild and running away to a lopsided 42-12 victory at Covina District Field.

Keanu Tauvao (174-yards and two scores) and Angel Barraza (150-yards and three td’s) combined for 324-yards and five touchdowns to lead the Vikings.

Northview got the ball to start the game and drove 67-yards on four plays with Barraza getting his first of the night on a 32-yard scamper. Joseph Gutierrez added the extra point for a 7-0 lead with 11:28 remaining in the first period.

Covina came back with a score of their own when Jake Duronslet found Ronnie Ropke on a 41-yard catch and run. The two point conversion failed and the Colts trailed by one.

Angel Barraza with three scores against Covina.

The Vikings pushed their advantage back to eight when Barraza got his second score on the night on a 3-yard run that capped an eight play, 82-yard drive. Gutierrez again added the extra point. Gutierrez finished the night hitting on all of his extra point attempts.

Just before the end of the first half Covina came back with another touchdown when Duronslet found Adrian Rachal from 10-yards out. Once again the two-point conversion failed.

As the teams were headed to the locker rooms the rain began to fall heavily and didn’t stop the rest of the game!

Northview got the ball to start the second half and in sloppy conditions marched 57-yards on five plays with Tauvao getting his first on the night.

On their next offensive series the Vikings pushed their advantage to 28-12 on a Barraza  9-yard run.

Early in the final frame Tauvao got his second score on a 9-yard run to finish off a 6-play, 65-yard drive.

The final score for the Vikings came with just 1:31 left to play on a one yard run by Erik Jimenez. The score was set up after Joseph Rangel took a big hit at his own 31 and coughed up the ball.

Covina will look to recover from the loss and host an improved Bell Gardens team while Northview will be at home Thursday to take on Cal High.
