(Baldwin Park) – Kimbom Ashe intercepted an El Monte pass attempt in the fourth quarter to seal a 22-7 victory for Sierra Vista Friday night at home.
The Lions and Dons went at it the first half with the only score coming off a Eric “Tarzan” Terrazas three yard run on the first play of the second quarter.
The game was 6-0 going into the half.
The teams defenses went back and fourth again the second half.
A deep pass from Lions quarterback Alexiz Rodriguez to Chino Montero put them in scoring position. Then Rodriguez hit Cesar Carreon on a swing pass for a nine yard score taking a 7-6 lead after the extra point.
Alexis Alonso went to work for Sierra Vista on a 70-yard drive that Alonso broke through and found paydirt on a 41-yard run.
On El Monte’s next drive Ashe picked off a Rodriguez pass and Terrazas broke through the defense for his own 41-yard touchdown making it 22-7.
Terrazas finished with 28-carries for 181-yards and two touchdowns. Alonso had 63-yards and his score.
Jonathan Lopez and Jimmy Gonzalez led the Lions defense flying all over the field making stops in the back field. Montero was a bright spot on the offense.
The Dons travel to Covina District Field to face Covina next week. El Monte will go home and face Viewpoint.
