- New York Yankees clinched a playoff spot with a 5-4, 10 inning win over the Boston Red Sox Thursday night. Aaron Judge did not hit a home run and still has 60 with 12 games remaining.
- Former UCLA basketball player Jalen Hill, 22, passed away after going missing in Costa Rica.
- Boston Celtics coach Ime Udoka has been suspended for the 2022-’23 season for his role in an intimate relationship with a female member of the franchise’s staff. The relationship is considered a violation of the organization’s guidelines.
- Cornerback Joe Haden, who played for Cleveland and Pittsburgh, announced he is retiring after 12 years. Haden will sign a one-day contract to retire with the Browns.
- The Baltimore Ravens signed veteran pass-rusher Jason Pierre-Paul to a one-year contract.
- Former UCLA guard Greg Lee, who played for John Wooden and helped the Bruins to consecutive national championships in 1972 and ’73, passed away at the age of 70.
- The LSU football program was placed on one-year probation for recruiting violations.
