San Dimas assistant Jason Carson directs traffic in a hit drill.

T-Minus-21 Days until “The Mid Valley Classic”

Good Afternoon!

Smudge Pot #4: October 4, 1975 at Mt. Sac (1:P.M.)

???

The date, the time, the place…are all on the money. But two different newspaper accounts give conflicting results. Five days later another account shows San Dimas as being winless through the third week of the 1975 season.

Yet, Saints records show the 1975 Smudge Pot battle as a 6-0 victory for SD.

(I’ll take any help I can get on this one)

Smudge Pot #5: October 8, 1976 at Mt. Sac (1:P.M.)

Playing without starting tailback Fred Carter, San Dimas uses the solid play of Perry Aris and Bob Pleasant to blowout Bonita 26-7.

Tied 7-7 at the start of the third quarter Aris intercepts Bearcat quarterback Sanford Coggins on the first play from scrimmage. This leads to a one-yard run by Pleasant.

Getting the ball again Saints quarterback Don Hargett engineers a 13-play 67-yard drive, that Pleasant keys with a 23-yard run, and caps it with a one-yard run.

With four minutes left in the game Pleasant breaks off a 24-yard run to set up a final touchdown by Aris on a four-yard blast.

Bonita’s lone score came on the last play of the first half when he connected with Rich Doyle for a 27-yard touchdown. Earlier Pleasant added a touchdown to give SD the lead.

Does a coach need to cuss to be successful? I don’t buy the argument some are making that it shows passion for your team and the task at hand… Wooden didn’t have to cuss…

Before you think there’s a soap box I’m standing on, what I really believe a coach needs to do for success is be himself.

I don’t know if feeding me is the same as providing gear. Gear and a spot on the show guarantees Mid Valley Karma…I think food only guarantees warm thoughts…

After my breakfast burrito at Whittier Christian this morning, I’m ready to declare the Heralds CIF champs… Of course after having pizza with Arroyo and El Rancho I felt the same way about them…

My apologies to Bell Gardens…I was supposed to hit them this morning…I tried what I thought was a faster route…instead of the one leaving from my house…Ended up in the City of Commerce.

Coach Ramos, Coach Gallardo, I will get there maňana…

They are hitting each other at San Dimas…as well as a lot of other places…Not enough tribute is given to the work of SD DC Brian Mustain…And a nice score for the Saints is Outside Linebacker Coach Jason Carson who was at Workman a year ago.

“He was a great pick up for us,” said SD HC Bill Zernickow.

No truth to the rumor the other six members of the Valle Vista have declared the 2010 season “World War Z”

Last Add Grub: You know the food is good at a certain restaurant when the coaches have staked a claim as Arroyo assistants Rosie Penaloza, Jesus Paz, and Rudy Sapien did at Pioneer Point in Arcadia/Monrovia today.

Best Matt Koffler impression around? (We all do one right?) Whittier Christian DC Pete Karavedas…spot on.

Did you know Alhambra went from 1966 thru 1977, 12 seasons, without a playoff appearance? But when they broke through in 1978 they did good with a 14-2 win over San Marcos in round one, and a 27-21 victory over Thousand Oaks in round two.

The Moors run finally came to a stop on December 8th, at home, in the semis against Arcadia 13-6.

“Football Rush Week” is coming…August 23-27.—Including: Jim Singiser, Matt Koffler, Sergio Gradilla, Chris Long, Craig Snyder, Mike Maggiore, Jim Arellanes, Brian Zavala, Darryl Thomas, Jim Arnold, Mike McFarland…and more…

Stay thirsty my friends…

In 1975 Bonita won 14-7. It was the first time Bonita won the smudgepot.
