Ganesha Names Hernandez

By Tim Peterson

(Pomona)- Ganesha has named Andres Hernandez as the new head football coach the school confirmed Wednesday.

Hernandez, who was the offensive line coach last year, takes over for Don Cayer who was let go as head coach earlier this year. Cayer is still serving as Athletic Director.

Ganesha went 7-3 overall last year but 1-2 in the Miramonte League and missed the playoffs.

Why let go of a coach to hire an assistant fr his staff? Same thing at Cal. Both not being an upgrade. These schools just want to field a team and that’s it. Nobody wants to win and the few teams that do get blasted for it.

Cayer remains the baseball coach at Ganesha .

Interesting thought though. I think ADs not coaching is a good rule as it helps prevent bias and favoritism within the department , especially in this time of specialization and limited numbers of athletes on campus.
I coach at a private school ( out of area) in which this has been the case for last couple decades at least . A new athletic director then comes in and starts coaching lol….:

Does Ganesha have a policy whereby the athletic director cannot coach a sports team? Several other schools have this rule.

Is this a hire so Cayer can retain control even if not the “coach”. Whole situation is strange
