    First time checking out SG. Those kids have pride. Best entrance I’ve ever seen. And after the game they play el Rey .Great stadium too.

    @LP, what does it matter what Division it is? Or what in your opinion is a “respectable” division to be since winning doesn’t matter to you.

    @FBfan it wasn’t even close. SG dominated the line of scrimmage. Galan will be going to his 2nd final in 3 years. The guy can flat out coach.

    @LP that team had only 3 coaches they did it all together. No titles. They run a system

    @Great Hambino,

    That’s some good insight there. Those types of teams that pound their opponents into submission ala Army/Navy and control the clock can definitely cause some problems. The coin has 2 sides though. Those same very teams that control clock can be in for a long night if they fall behind because their systems are not built for comebacks. So all that to say, that in a game like Duarte vs. SG, the start of the game is HUGE! If SG can get first downs, stops, and keep Duarte of the field then they’ll be the favorite. If Duarte can start off hot and get SG in 3rd and long situations, then SG can be in for a long night. Should be a good game, but I’m still going with Duarte.

    I think a title as a coordinator is better than a final as a head coach I’d argue that is a more important experience. He’s done it.

    @Anonymous,

    No, but neither does Galan as a HC. My response was to Bonald Dernard’s claim that Galan has more playoff experience which simply isn’t true.

    @FBfan the most important stat that SG wins in is time of possession. Their clock control is old school and tough to deal with. Nothing against Duarte, but it’s a bad matchup for them. This game reminds me of Marantha vs SG in 2022. Maranatha had an explosive offensive with miles omalley, but couldn’t stop SG’S clock control. I think SG Wins by at least two scores.

    It’s because the ruling was made after the start of playoffs when seedlings etc. were announced. Not saying this is appropriate…..

    Correct. The Olympic league was tough circa 2010 and Sergio’s Whittier Christian teams were always contenders . Those teams would be D8-10 these days

    @RHL Fan,

    I’ll give you that. Very impressive what South Pas is pulling off. I just think the IE is a bit more formidable from top to bottom consistently. Just my 2 cents. Wouldn’t be surprised at all if SP pulls it off.

    Never said it was a 7 on 7 game. And yes SG has a sound run game and yes Galan sounds like a terrific coach. But this isn’t Sergio Gradilla’s first rodeo. He made it to the finals vs Monrovia about 10 or so years ago and lost but that was also when Monrovia had D-1 athletes galore. Also has multiple Olympic League titles. Like I said, Galan is a great coach but to say he has more playoff experience- especially since he has only been a HC for a few years while Gradilla has been at it for decades – shows just how little you know.

    @FBfan this isn’t 7on7. Duarte won’t be able to stop the run. They know it’s coming and they won’t have an answer. Both of SG’s backs could play in higher divisions and only juniors. Galan has more playoff experience it’ll be the difference in the game.

    @FBFan, For D-10, South Pas was the only LA County team put in their half of the bracket. They are going through a gauntlet of IE teams. After playing Patriot of Jurupa Valley they were lined up to play a Moreno Valley school and then were going to play Chino or Silverado. So they are definitely getting their fill of IE teams. I heard from a reliable source that their team bus broke down on their way to Moreno Valley and they waited 2 hours for a replacement bus on the side of the Freeway. They had to push their kick off back 30 minutes to 7:30pm. Not as bad as Baldwin Park’s ride home, but still couldn’t have been fun sitting on the side of the Freeway in Friday afternoon traffic.

    D5- La Serna over Summit. Big one since I believe this is where the LS receiver came from.
    D6- Murrieta Mesa over St. Francis. Murrieta Mesa is a team that should probably be in the upper portion of the Big VIII and will be next year.
    Glendora over Dana Hills. I think the size of Glendora might be a bit too much for Dana Hills.
    D7- RHP over West Torrance because you don’t pick against RHP
    D10- Silverado over So. Pasadena. I like what South Pas is doing but Silverado is an IE team with a different level of athleticism.
    D11- San Gorgonio over El Rancho. See above comment about Silverado vs. So. Pasadena
    Baldwin Park over Portola- BP has some really good athletes and should probably be in a division or 2 above 11.
    D12- Carter over Wilson for the same reason ER and South Pas don’t advance.
    D13- Lynwood over Pasadena. Lynwood has been here before.
    D14- Duarte over San Gabriel. I think Duarte has a handful of athletes that would start at upper division schools. Not sure SG has that.
    Pioneer over Ganesha. Ganesha fired Cayer so they can be in the D-14 semis.

    In other news if I understand the stories correctly Narbonne High football had 27 tranfer players this year. OMG!. The other teams in their league refused to play Narbonne saying they knew some were ineligible but CIF refused to investigate. Well the Marine League strike worked because 7 players are now ruled ineligible and Narbonne has to forfeit all their games and are banned from post season next year and maybe longer. But get this…..they are being allowed to compete in the Open City Division playoffs anyway. Explain that to me please.
