(Pasadena) – Maranatha was outscored 20-8 in the second quarter to fall behind by seven at halftime and could never recover in a 57-33 loss to Heritage Christian in Olympic League action Friday night at Maranatha.
The Minutemen got off to a 12-4 start to open the game and led by five after the first quarter as Bryan Lopez scored five points. But that changed quickly in the second quarter as Dillan Shaw and Tae Simmons got loose and got Heritage Christian rolling.

Maranatha had several turnovers in the quarter which led to easy dunks for Simmons and Shaw. Shaw had nine in the quarter including a three and Simmons had six in the 20-point barrage. The Warriors led 27-20 at the half.
“We turned the ball over seven straight times in the quarter. We had way too many turnovers,” said Maranatha head coach Tim Tucker.
It was more of the same as the third quarter got underway. The Warriors went on a 14-4 run to start the quarter as Simmons threw down a rim-rocking jam and Shaw did the damage outside knocking down two from long distance. By the time the third quarter buzzer sounded Heritage Christian had outscored Maranatha 18-8 and was cruising by 17.

The Warriors then finished it off in the fourth quarter holding the Minutemen to just five points. Simmons and Shaw who are both receiving Division 1 offers, combined for 40 of the team’s 57 points. Shaw led the way with 22, Simmons had 18 and Dominic Loehle and Max Hackney each scored six.
“Yes it’s hard to match up with those two. They’re both D-1 players,” Tucker said.
For Maranatha nobody was in double figures. Lopez and Chris Smith each had eight and Giancono Manzella hit a pair of threes for six points.
Heritage Christian is now 19-2 overall and 3-0 in the Olympic League while the Minutemen fell to 7-14 and 2-1.
“We’re a good team. I think we can finish in second place, but that’s the best team in the league,” Tucker added.
