(Pico Rivera)-The Dons of El Rancho opened their 2010 football season on a high note by shutting out Los Altos 41-0 Friday night.

Don quarterback Troy Campos displayed some quick feet as well as a nice touch on the ball; rolling out on touchdown passes of 14 and 10 yards to Daniel Moriel and breaking loose for a 27-touchdown run.

“He’s been sitting in the wings of Josh Perea the past three years,” said El Rancho Head Coach Rick Zepeda. “It was a great break out game for him, a big confidence builder.”

Rancho opened the floodgates less than a minute into the game when Josh Lopez took a toss play 74-yards untouched into the end zone to make it 7-0 with 11:11 remaining in the first.

On E.R’s next possession, the Dons capitalized off a Conqueror’s botched punt attempt and Campos connected with Moriel on a perfect 14-yard fade route right inside the pylon.

The touchdown was the second score for El Rancho in five plays and the lead was 14-0 with 6:36 remaining in the first quarter.

“You have to take your wins and enjoy them,” said Zepeda. “Offensively we fumbled a couple of snaps, our substitutions were a mess on special teams, but you have to take it.”

Los Altos came within 10 yards of the red zone on a drive late in the third, but the conquerors miscues continued and they could not convert.

Running Back Andrew Romero added another touchdown on the ground for E.R’s attack and the Dons led 34-0 at halftime.

El Rancho is scheduled to play at Northview next week.
