- With Washington’s win Saturday night, every NFC team other than the Dallas Cowboys now will have played in a conference championship game going back to the 1996 season. The Cowboys last NFC title game appearance was 1995.
- The Dodgers signed Japanese right-hander Roki Sasaki Friday and left-handed reliever Tanner Scott Sunday. Scott signed for four years, $72 million.

- USC hired Rob Ryan as their defense/linebackers coach.
- The Chicago Bears interviewed former Tennessee Titans running back and current Tennessee St. head coach Eddie George Sunday for their head coaching vacancy.
- Former MLB catcher and Chicago White Sox manager Jeff Torborg passed away Sunday at the age of 84.
- On this day in 1980 the Pittsburgh Steelers beat the Rams 31-19 in Super Bowl XIV at the Rose Bowl. Steelers quarterback Terry Bradshaw was named MVP.
- Also on this day in 1985 the San Francisco 49ers beat the Miami Dolphins 38-16 in Super Bowl XIX at Stanford Stadium. 49ers quarterback Joe Montana was named MVP.
