(Glendale) La Salle came up short in its first game of the season losing to Village Christian 55-28 at Moyse Field on Saturday night.
The V.C. ground game rolled all over the Lancers, with the Crusaders picking up over 450 yards and seven touchdowns throughout the course of the game. Led by Quarterback Kyle Custer hurling for 61 yards and a score through the air along with 50 yards rushing and two of the seven trips to paydirt.
La Salle on the other hand struggled to get their offense going until late in the contest with quarterback Michael Novell struggling to find time and finding it difficult to get rid of the ball all night, and as a result he was sacked five times. Antoine Peterson Jr. was held at bay by the swarming Crusader defense also gaining only 50 yards rushing.
Village Christian was led by running back Amjed Aboul-Hosn who carried the ball for close to 200 yards and three scores. When Crusader Head Coach Jeff Cortez spoke of Aboul-Hosn after the game he simply said “He needs to play better. He could have had more yards tonight.”
La Salle did have a bright spot in Israel Lacy. He returned two kickoffs for touchdowns, making him account for half of the Lancer scoring. Lacy also played excellent in the defensive secondary shoring up the holes and racking up over 10 tackles.
Village Christian will take their victory and travel to play Fillmore who won their first game beating Malibu 53-0.
La Salle will go up the road to play Maranatha. The Minutemen also lost their first game, falling to Big Bear 17-27
