(Alhambra) – Landon Winslow scored 25 points to lead Alhambra to a 72-59 win over Sierra Vista Thursday night in the second round of the CIF Division V State playoffs.
Winslow, Alhambra’s leading scorer all year, had plenty of help as four other Moors were also in double figures.
The Moors started fast scoring 23 points in the first quarter to grab an eight-point lead. Winslow had 11 in the quarter and Justin Chhay had five.
Alhambra opened up the lead to 14 late in the second quarter but Sierra Vista scored the last five points of the quarter to cut it to 36-27 at the half.
Aaron Buna had six points in the quarter and 10 in the first half to keep the Dons within striking distance.

Sierra Vista continued the rally opening the third quarter with a 15-5 run to take a 42-41 lead with 4:06 left in the quarter. Buna knocked down three consecutive three-point bombs to highlight the run.
The Moors though then went on the most important stretch of the game. They scored 12 straight points capped by a Deuce Chang three to go up by 11.
Alhambra still led by 53-45 at the end of three and was able to maintain that advantage and then extend it for the 13-point victory.
The Moors hit seven of nine free throws in the fourth quarter while Sierra Vista missed all six attempts in the final frame.
Buna led all scorers as he hit four threes and finished with 26 points for Sierra Vista. However he was the only Don in double figures. Ethan Guevara and Peter Albir each had nine.

For Alhambra Ryan Cerros and Chhay supported Winslow with 15 points and 12 respectively. Chang and Ethan Thai each had 10.
Sierra Vista had a memorable year finishing 22-12 overall while Alhambra advances to the next round in the Division V State playoffs.

Excellent write up on the Alhambra Moors team, I especially appreciate the pic on Ryan Cerros, who played a huge part on the success of the team, unfortunately he sprained his ankle in practice the night before, and did not play in the game against The Math and Science team Saturday night.
Congratulations to Coach Bryan Gonzalez and the Moors on a great playoff run! Keep it going, guys!
