@ RAMS FAN: Maybe Dave Roberts doesn’t want or need to live excessively large. (What a refreshing concept!) $8.1 million a year is still a huge amount of money.
Roberts has done a great job managing the Dodgers, and I’m glad they’re keeping him. He would’ve done even better by now if more of his pitchers had managed to stay healthy into October during several recent seasons.

You made my argument for me. “the football coach has to have an army of assistants around him.” How many? o line, d line, running backs, quarter back, strength & conditioning, etc. and that’s just on the field. How many more up in the nest actually making the decisions? To put 11 guys on the field compared to 9 in baseball. Football coach is making very few decisions, that’s what his coaches are for. Watch any football game and the coach is mostly passive. Any baseball knowledgeable person will tell you you coach in practice and manage the game. That’s why baseball coaches look like they’re falling asleep, they’ve already done their work, for a 162 game regular season. We’ll agree to disagree.
@ RAMS FAN,
Sorry, but a college football coach does more work in 1 week than a MLB manager does in an entire season. The amount of prep for a football game is unbelievably massive. Just look at any baseball manager during a game. He stands there with his arms crossed, almost falling asleep. Meanwhile, the football coach has to have an army of assistants around him and communicate with people in a tower while making decisions, being crafty with he refs, and managing the sideline. It’s insane to compare the two.
#10 Why so cheap Dodgers? College football coaches are getting $10-15 million a year for a what 20 game season and no national championship? Doesn’t seem right. He has 2 World Championships as manager. Coaches a 162 game regular season, spring training and playoffs. Come on Dodgers, pay him what he’s worth. Who’s his agent? Can’t be Boras.
