Coming to Spring Training, the talk, the hope, the desire was for Caden Dana, 21, to emerge as part of the Los Angeles Angels’ pitching rotation.
While Dana’s performance has been up and down, and Reid Detmers continues to tease, Jack Kochanowicz has been Tempe Diablo’s breakout pitcher this March.
Kochanowicz added to his impressive spring by going four perfect innings against Cincinnati on Sunday.
There are free agent signees Yuse Kikuchi and Kyle Hendricks. The group also includes Tyler Anderson and Jose Soriano, with Kochanowicz and Detmers battling for the fifth spot.
“Going through this rotation, we’ll start really zeroing in on where we are and where we want to go, but we’re still not there yet,” Angel manager Ron Washington told MLB.Com. “So everybody is still competing.”
The right-handed Kochanowicz has allowed only one earned run through nine innings while registering six strikeouts to one base on balls.
A third-round pick of the Halos in 2019, Kochanowicz made his MLB debut last season, starting 11 games, pitching 65.1 innings, with an earned run average of 3.99.
